LES RAPIDES REVIENNENT ENCORE DE L’ARRIÈRE POUR DISPOSER DES TIGRES
GRAND-SAULT – Pour un deuxième match de suite, les Rapides de Grand-Sault sont revenus de l’arrière pour signer la victoire. Dimanche après-midi à domicile, il a fallu trois buts sans riposte de la part de Grand-Sault pour finalement venir à bout des Tigres de Campbellton par la marque de 7-6.
C’est le défenseur Jonathan Cormier qui a inscrit le but victorieux à 11 :25 en troisième lors d’une supériorité numérique. Ce dernier a réussi à prendre possession d’une rondelle sautillante devant le filet pour tromper la vigilance du gardien Isaak Pelletier. Il s’agissait d’un deuxième but pour Cormier cette saison.
Yannic Bastarache avait créé l’égalité pour les Rapides à 4 :56, soit seulement 50 secondes après le but de Zac Arsenault, son deuxième de la rencontre.
Les Rapides ont donc bien entrepris leur séjour de quatre matchs à domicile, ajoutant deux victoires à leur palmarès. La troupe de Nick Tremere mettait également un terme à une séquence de trois victoires consécutives de la part des Tigres. Avec cette victoire, Grand-Sault prend maintenant possession du 5e rang au classement dans la division Eastlink Nord avec un dossier de 4 victoires et 6 revers pour 8 points.
Alors que l’on prévoyait un match à caractère défensif avec deux excellents gardiens en présence, c’est tout à fait le contraire qui s’est produit lors des vingt premières minutes de jeu de cette rencontre alors que 8 buts au total ont été enregistrés. Les Rapides ont réussi à prendre une avance de 4-0 tôt dans le match, laissant leurs adversaires sur leurs talons et visiblement très inconfortables. Les Tigres ont toutefois démontré beaucoup de caractère en revenant de l’arrière pour créer l’égalité.
Adam Fowlow avait procuré les devants aux Rapides à 2 :06 suite à un revirement tout près du cercle des mises en jeu. Spencer Desveaux a doublé l’avance des siens à 3 :02 à l’aide d’un tir des poignets sur une belle passe de son coéquipier Matt Spence.
Yannic Bastarache a porté le compte 3-0 après qu’il a eu réussi à se faufiler seul le long de la rampe, trompant la vigilance du gardien Isaak Pelletier avec un tir dans la partie supérieure. Même les défenseurs ont pris part à ce festival offensif lorsque Zac Arsenault a fait dévier un tir devant le filet après avoir quitté son poste à la ligne bleue. Le but est survenu à 4 :26, soit un 4e filet sans riposte pour les locaux en seulement 2 :20 d’intervalle.
Cette priorité allait cependant disparaître en un clin d’œil. Tout a débuté à 7 :38 sur le but de Jack Dickie suite à un revirement dans le territoire des Rapides. Jordan Brière y est ensuite allé de deux buts, ses 7e et 8e de la campagne, réduisant l’écart à 4-3. Puis à 17 :22, Camille Marcoux est venu créer l’égalité pour les visiteurs, battant le gardien Dimattia à l’aide d’un tir dans la partie supérieure du filet.
Campbellton a dominé cette première période au chapitre des tirs au but, 12-11.
Les Tigres ont poursuivi sur leur lancée en deuxième période. Profitant d’une supériorité numérique de quatre minutes, Daryk Dubé-Plouffe a permis aux siens de prendre les devants alors que 27 secondes plus tard, Kevin Bond portait le compte 6-4.
La formation du Restigouche a été en mesure de fermer le jeu davantage en deuxième, n’accordant que 7 tirs aux Rapides au cours de l’engagement.
Les Rapides ont été plus agressifs en zone adverse lors du troisième vingt, dirigeant 15 tirs en direction du filet adverse tout en dérangeant le travail du gardien Isaak Pelletier. Les défenseurs du côté des Rapides ont appuyé l’attaque et comme résultat, Zac Arsenault et Jonathan Cormier ont chacun fait bouger les cordages. Yannic Bastarache a lui aussi réussi à noircir la feuille de pointage en troisième période.
Grand-Sault a dominé la période 15-10 pour les tirs au but, mais ce sont les Tigres qui ont eu le dessus dans la rencontre, 38-33.
Les Rapides seront de retour en action vendredi soir prochain alors qu’ils accueilleront les Mariners de Yarmouth à compter de 19h30 au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal. Puis dimanche après-midi, ça sera au tour des Timberwolves de Miramichi de s’amener à Grand-Sault pour un match en matinée (15h00).

*Yannic Bastarache a dirigé l’offensive des Rapides avec une performance de 2 buts et 2 mentions d’aide. Il s’agissait de ses 3e et 4e filets de la campagne.
Zac Arsenault (2b 1p) a lui aussi connu un bon match offensivement.
Du côté des Tigres, Jordan Brière a été le meilleur avec une récolte de 3 points (2b 1p).
*Il s’agissait d’un deuxième match cette saison où les Rapides laissaient filer une avance de 4 buts. Mentionnons toutefois que Grand-Sault a réussi à combler un déficit de deux buts lors des deux rencontres disputées ce week-end.
*Blessé depuis le début de la campagne, l’attaquant Drew Johnston disputait un premier match cette saison pour les Rapides. Cole McKeigan effectuait pour sa part un retour au jeu après avoir servi une suspension.

RAPIDS COME FROM BEHIND ONCE AGAIN TO DEFEAT THE TIGERS
GRAND FALLS – For a second consecutive game, the Grand Falls Rapids came from behind by two goals in the third period to skate away with the victory. On Sunday afternoon, it took three goals in the final twenty minutes of play for Grand Falls to defeat the Campbellton Tigers by a score of 7-6.
Defenseman Jonathan Cormier scored the game winner on a power play at 11:25 of the final frame after he took control of a bouncing puck in the slot, beating goaltender Isaak Pelletier on the glove side. It was Cormier’s second goal of the season.
Yannic Bastarache tied the score for Grand Falls at 4:56, only 50 seconds after Zac Arsenault tallied his second of the contest on a back hand shot.
The Rapids started their four game homestand by adding 4 precious points to their record while also ending Campbellton’s three game winning streak. Nick Tremere’s squad now takes over 5th spot in the Eastlink North division standings with a record of 4 victories and 6 losses for 8 points.
As we were probably expecting a defensive struggle with two top goaltenders facing each other, it turned out rather as the most unpredictable first twenty minutes of play in recent memory as 8 goals in total were scored. The Rapids jumped to an early 4-0 lead, leaving their opponents on their heels and uncomfortable to say the least. However, the Tigers showed great character as they came back to tie the score before the end of the frame.
Adam Fowlow put the Rapids ahead at 2:06 following a turnover near the faceoff circle. Spencer Desveaux doubled that lead at 3:02 on a wrister from the slot on a great pass from Matt Spence.
Yannic Bastarache made it 3-0 after he was able to come in along the boards untouched, sending a shot in the top corner, beating Tigers’ netminder Isaak Pelletier at 3:55. Even the defensemen joined the scoring spree as Zac Arsenault added a 4th goal at 4:26 on a tip in front of the net. Grand Falls scored those four goals in a span of only 2:20.
However, that lead would vanish in a matter of time. It started at 7:38 when Jack Dickie took advantage of a give away in font of the net to reduce the lead to three goals. Then Jordan Brière scored twice, his 7th and 8th goals of the season, bringing the Tigers to within one goal. Camille Marcoux is the one who tied the score at 17:22 on a perfect shot in the top corner, beating Rapids’ goalie Gio DiMattia.
Shots on goal were 12-11 in favour of Campbellton.
The Tigers added two more goals early in the second period. Daryk Dubé-Plouffe took advantage of a 4-minute minor penalty to the Rapids to send his team in front 5-4 at the 3-minute mark. Then Kevin Bond scored an even strength goal 27 seconds later to put Campbellton ahead 6-4.
The Tigers were able to settle things defensively as they allowed only 7 shots on goal to Grand Falls in the second period.
The Rapids were much more aggressive in the opposing end in the third period, sending 15 pucks to the net while creating traffic in front of goalie Isaak Pelletier. The Grand Falls’ defensemen also supported the offense and as a result, Zac Arsenault and Jonathan Cormier each scored in the final twenty minutes of play. Yannic Bastarache also scored, tying the game early in the frame.
Grand Falls dominated the period 15 to 10 in shots on goal, but Campbellton had the upper hand in the contest, 38 to 33.
The Rapids will return to action next Friday night as they host the Yarmouth Mariners at 7:30 pm at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre. Then on Sunday afternoon, the Miramichi Timberwolves will be in Grand Falls for a 3 pm start.

Zac Arsenault (2g and 1a) was the second leading scorer for Grand Falls on Sunday.
For Campbellton, Jordan Brière also registered 3 points with 2g and 1a.
*It was the second time this season that the Rapids had a four-goal lead vanish in a game. However, they were able to come back by two goals in the third period for a second consecutive game on Sunday to earn the victory.
*Forward Drew Johnston played his first game of the season for the Rapids on Sunday while Cole McKeigan returned to the lineup following a suspension.
