LES RAPIDES REMPORTENT UN 6e MATCH DE SUITE
FREDERICTON – Les Rapides ont signé une 6e victoire consécutive jeudi soir à Fredericton, l’emportant par la marque de 3-1 devant les Red Wings devant plus de 500 spectateurs réunis au Grant-Harvey Centre.
Tyler Boivin a dirigé l’offensive des vainqueurs avec ses 9e et 10e filets de la campagne, dont le dernier dans une cage déserte qui est d’ailleurs venu assurer une 7e victoire aux Rapides cette saison, dont une 5e sur les patinoires adverses.
Les Rapides prennent du même coup possession du premier rang dans la mini-division Eastlink Nord avec un dossier de 7 victoires, 2 revers et 3 défaites en tirs de barrage pour un total de 17 points, soit 2 pts de plus que le Blizzard d’Edmundston qui a disputé trois matchs en moins.
De plus, la troupe de Brad Mackenzie porte à 7 sa série de matchs avec une récolte d’au moins 1 point au classement.
Le chiffre final des tirs au but a grandement favorisé les Rapides. En effet, Andrew MacLeod a dû affronter 47 lancers devant le filet des Red Wings et il devient le premier gardien cette saison à blanchir le jeu de puissance des Rapides qui avait réussi à produire au moins 1 but lors des 11 premières parties disputées par l’équipe en saison régulière.
Gio DiMattia est celui qui a remporté le gain devant la cage des Rapides, sa troisième cette saison.
Selon l’entraîneur-chef Brad Mackenzie, ses protégés ont encore une fois offert une solide performance sur le plan défensif. D’ailleurs, les Rapides n’ont accordé qu’un seul filet à leurs adversaires au cours de leurs deux dernières sorties.
« Nous avons très bien contrôlé le jeu ce soir. Nous avons bien défendu notre zone et notre transition en attaque fut très efficace. Le gardien MacLeod a été solide pour eux, même si nous avons raté de belles opportunités de marquer. Je suis fier tout de même que nous ayons pu demeurer calmes sans démontrer aucune frustration, » mentionne l’entraîneur-chef.
Mackenzie ne s’en fait pas pour le manque de productivité au niveau du jeu de puissance, surtout que sa troupe domine toujours le circuit à ce chapitre.
« Notre jeu de puissance a été plus performant que le démontrent les chiffres. Nous avons obtenu plusieurs bonnes chances de marquer, mais la rondelle n’a malheureusement pas atteint le fond du filet, » mentionne Mackenzie.
La première période a été disputée à vive allure même si un seul but a été enregistré. Sur la seule pénalité mineure attribuée lors de l’engagement initial, les Red Wings ont réussi à toucher la cible grâce au 5e but de la campagne de Zach Alchorn marqué à 15 :26.
Les Rapides ont complètement dominé la période au chapitre des tirs au but, 15-6.
La formation de Grand-Sault n’a pas mis de temps à égaliser la marque lors de la période médiane. Après une mise en jeu remportée en territoire adverse par Kyle Foreman, Tyler Boivin a pris une rondelle libre devant le filet et a dirigé un tir en tombant sur la patinoire, battant le gardien Andrew MacLeod à sa droite à 3 :24. Il s’agissait d’un 9e but pour Boivin cette saison.
Moins de trois minutes plus tard, Antoine Roy a procuré les devants aux Rapides pour la première fois du match après avoir pris un retour de lancer devant le filet.
Mentionnons qu’après quarante minutes de jeu, les Rapides menaient au chapitre des tirs au but, 30-10.
Les Rapides ont disputé un bon match en défensive, notamment lors du troisième vingt alors qu’ils ont limité leurs adversaires à seulement 4 tirs au but. Le gardien Andrew MacLeod a été solide encore une fois, bloquant 16 rondelles au cours du dernier engagement.
Tyler Boivin est celui qui a ajouté le 3e but de Grand-Sault dans un filet désert à 19 :55, son 10e de la campagne.
Les Rapides seront de retour en action dimanche après-midi alors qu’ils accueilleront la visite du Blizzard d’Edmundston à compter de 15h00 au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal de Grand-Sault.

RAPIDS WIN THEIR 6th CONSECUTIVE GAME
FREDERICTON – The Rapids picked up their 6th win in a row Thursday night in Fredericton, defeating the hometown Red Wings by a score of 3-1 in front of 550 fans at the Grant Harvey Centre.
Tyler Boivin led the way offensively for the Rapids with his 9th and 10th goals of the season, including an empty net tally to seal Grand Falls’ 7th victory of the season and its 5th as the visiting team.
The Rapids now take sole possession of first place in the Eastlink North mini-division 1 with a record of 7 wins, 2 losses and 3 extra time defeats for a total of 17 points, which is 2 points more than the Edmundston Blizzard who have played only 9 games thus far on the regular season schedule.
Brad Mackenzie’s squad has now picked up at least 1 point in the standings in its last 7 contests.
Final shots on goal favoured the Rapids by plenty: 47 to 14. Red Wings’ goaltender Andrew MacLeod was responsible for keeping the game close, even shutting out the best power play unit in the league for the first time this season.
Gio DiMattia picked up his 3rd win of the season for Grand Falls.
Head coach Brad Mackenzie was once again very satisfied by his team’s performance, especially on the defensive front as the Rapids have now only allowed 1 goal to their opponents in their last two contests.
“I thought we controlled the play well tonight. We were good at defending and getting back quickly on the attack. Andrew MacLeod was really solid in net for them and it felt like we were a little snake bitten as we had some real good scoring chances that we just couldn’t put in. With that being said, I was proud of our guys for not getting frustrated and sticking with the game plan to the end,” mentions Mackenzie.
He was also reassuring to the fact that the power play failed to produce a goal for the first time in 12 games this season.
“The power play was better than the numbers show tonight. We had some really good looks but we just couldn’t find the back of the net”.
There was a fast pace to the opening period, but only one goal was scored. The Red Wings took advantage of the only minor penalty awarded in the frame, scoring at 15:26 on Zach Alchorn’s 5th goal of the season.
The Rapids dominated the first twenty minutes of play by sending 15 shots on goal by comparison of only 6 for the Red Wings.
The Rapids came in strong out of the gate in the second period, tying the score at the 3-minute mark after controlling the play for a long stretch of time into Red Wings’ territory. After Kyle Foreman won the draw in the opposing end, Tyler Boivin took control of a loose puck in front of the net and sent a shot while falling to the ice, beating goalie Andrew MacLeod at 3:24. It was Boivin’s 9th tally of the season.
Less than 3 minutes later, Antoine Roy scored on a rebound in front of the net, giving the Rapids their first lead of the contest.
Note that after two periods of play, Grand Falls led 30 to 10 in shots on goal.
Grand Falls played a solid game defensively, most notably in the third period as the Red Wings could only manage 4 shots on net. Netminder Andrew MacLeod continued his solid play between the pipes as he faced 16 shots in the final frame.
Tyler Boivin added the Rapids’ third goal, scoring in an empty net at 19:55 for his second tally of the night and his 10th of the season.
The Rapids return to action Sunday afternoon as they host the Edmundston Blizzard. Puck drop is at 3pm at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre in Grand Falls.
