COMPTE-RENDU DES RAPIDES – 6 mars
La deuxième saison disputée par les Rapides à Grand-Sault vient de prendre fin. Même si l’équipe n’a pas été en mesure de se qualifier pour les séries éliminatoires, nous avons tout de même été témoins de moments intenses cette saison sur la patinoire, contribuant à faire sauter les partisans de leur siège. Il y a eu aussi des moments magiques hors de la patinoire, ce qui a permis à rapprocher l’équipe de sa communauté qui, soit dit en passant, supporte grandement son équipe favorite.
Les joueurs ont bien répondu à leur façon, remportant 10 parties sur leur propre patinoire tout en récoltant 24 points au total lors des matchs disputés au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal. Malgré quelques échanges et différentes acquisitions effectués en cours de route, la nation Rapide était bel et bien vivante et très loyale auprès de l’équipe. Cette loyauté demeura sûrement en place pour la prochaine saison alors que l’équipe visera à faire parties des séries éliminatoires.
Cet objectif est d’ailleurs le but ultime de cette formation alors que l’avenir semble très prometteur. Après tout, nous avons eu un avant-goût cette saison du jeune talent que l’on retrouve actuellement auprès de l’organisation, dont quelques-uns qui ont fait leur marque à leurs premiers coups de patin au niveau junior A. Une place sur l’alignement dès septembre prochain est fort possible pour certains d’entre eux.
Il n’est jamais facile de regarder les autres équipes poursuivre leur saison et batailler pour un championnat, mais il s’agit également d’un bel objectif à atteindre pour la campagne 2020-2021. Le personnel entraîneurs est sur la bonne voie avec cette équipe et les joueurs comprennent que les attentes seront hautes, mais l’important demeure la progression et le désir d’évoluer selon le système en place. Le succès vient toujours avec le temps et l’effort; l’on ne doit jamais rien prendre pour acquis.
Comme l’a si bien mentionné l’entraîneur chef Brad MacKenzie au terme de cette superbe victoire de 5-4 remportée en surtemps jeudi soir à Miramichi :
« Je suis fier de ce groupe et j’aurais bien aimé que la saison se poursuive. Il y a de quoi de très excitant qui nous attend lors de la prochaine saison ».
Les partisans méritent également une bonne main d’applaudissement en raison de leur patience, leur dévouement et leur grande compréhension au cours de la dernière saison. En retour, les joueurs ressentaient ce support inconditionnel et se sentaient à la maison, peu importe leur lieu d’origine. On ne peut que s’imaginer ce qu’une saison gagnante peut apporter comme atmosphère au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal. Considérant que la foule était toujours au rendez-vous, tout en étant joyeuse et très bruyante, il y a quelque chose de magique qui se prépare une fois que tout le travail et cette patience vierndra finalement à bout.
Nous espérons que serez tous au rendez-vous encore une fois en septembre prochain alors que les Rapides auront comme mission de poursuivre leur saison pour encore plus longtemps.
STATISTIQUES FINALES:
*Les Rapides terminent la saison avec un dossier de 16 victoires, 30 revers et 6 défaites en temps supplémentaire pour un total de 38 points, ce qui situe l’équipe au 5e rang de la division Eastlink Nord.
Leur fiche cette saison surpasse donc celle obtenue en 2018-2019, soit lors de la première campagne de l’équipe à Grand-Sault. Les Rapides avaient alors terminé au 6e rang avec une fiche de 13 victoires, 30 revers et 7 défaites en temps supplémentaire pour un total de 33 points. Il s’agit donc d’une récolte de 5 points de mieux cette saison.
Si on recule à la campagne 2017-2018, soit la dernière disputée à Woodstock, l’équipe avait terminé avec 34 points au classement.
*Voici quelques statistiques finales au niveau de l’équipe et du côté individuelle:
Avantage numérique: pourcentage d’efficacité de 21,5% (48 buts marqués). L’équipe se situe au 4e rang à ce chapitre dans la division Eastlink Nord.
À court d’un homme: pourcentage d’efficacité de 77,2% (53 buts alloués). L’équipe se situe également au 3e rang à ce chapitre dans la division Eastlink Nord.
Minutes de pénalités: 1017 minutes. L’équipe est la 3e équipe la plus punie de sa division.
*Lucas Joly et Matthew MacKay ont terminé la saison sur un pied d’égalité au chapitre des points (44).
Joly est premier au niveau des buts marqués avec 20, suivi de Nash Smith avec 19. MacKay est au premier rang pour les mentions d’assistance avec 29, suivi de Joly avec 24.
*Nash Smith vient au premier rang pour les buts enregistrés en avantage numérique avec 9 alors que Matthew MacKay vient au second rang à ce chapitre avec 8 buts.
Pour ce qui est des buts inscrits en infériorité numérique, deux joueurs en ont marqué un chacun cette saison : Drew Toner et Evan Jackson.
*Tyriq Outen et Nolan Boyd ont terminé la campagne avec une moyenne de buts alloués combinée de 4,21.
La Moyenne de Outen se situe à 3,98 alors que celle de Boyd est à 4,30. Pour ce qui est victoires devant le filet, Outen en compte 16 à son crédit alors que Boyd en a remporté 6.

RAPIDS REPORT – March 6th
The second Rapids’ season in Grand Falls has come to an end. Even though the team missed the playoffs, there were some amazing moments on the ice which brought the fans out of their seats, and some great moments off the ice which brought together the whole community who always stood in support for their favorite MHL team.
The Rapids have responded well in return, winning 10 games on home ice while picking up 24 points in the process on their own rink. Despite the trades and the different acquisitions that were made along the way, Rapids’ nation is very much alive, and the fan base remains loyal. It can only get stronger once the team comes back next season with playoff aspirations.
Those playoff hopes are what will drive the team next season. The future is bright and promising. After all, we did get a quick glimpse this season of some of the young talent that is awaiting in the wings, some of which seem ready for a spot in the lineup in 2020-2021.
It’s never easy watching other teams pursue their season and fighting for a championship, but that is something else to aim for next season.
The coaching staff has this organization going in the right direction and players understand that expectations will be high, but the important thing is progression and commitment to the system. Success comes with time and hard work; nothing should be left for granted.
As mentioned well by head coach Brad MacKenzie following Thursday night’s great 5-4 overtime victory:
“I’m proud of this group and wish this wasn’t the end. There’s a lot to be excited about for next season”.
The fans also need to be applauded for their commitment, patience and understanding throughout the campaign. Players felt supported at all times, no matter the situation. We can only imagine what a winning season can bring to the whole atmosphere at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre. Considering that the attendance was good, and the crowd was very cheerful and loud, something magical is awaiting when finally, all the hard work and patience pays off.
We hope to all see you back next September as the Rapids embark on a mission that should lead to a much longer season ahead.

*The Rapids finish their season with a record of 16 wins, 30 losses and 6 overtime and shootout defeats for a total of 38 points which rank them 5th in the Eastlink North division standings.
Their record this season has surpassed the one from the last campaign, their inaugural season in Grand Falls, where they finished 6th in their division with 13 wins, 30 losses and 7 overtime and shootout defeats for a total of 33 points. They are 5 points better this season.
If we go back to the 2017-2018 campaign, the last one played in Woodstock, the team had a total of 34 points.
*Here’s how the team finished in the following statistical departments:
