RAPIDS FALL SHORT AGAINST THE TIMBERWOLVES
MIRAMICHI – Just days after the Rapids defeated the Miramichi Timberwolves with a comeback for the ages, it seemed like the same scenario would repeat itself on Thursday night. This time however, Grand Falls fell short after trailing by three goals, only to lose in heart breaking fashion at the very end.
Following a scramble in front of the Rapids’ net, Ethan Dickson scored the game winning goal with no time left on the clock in the final period, giving Miramichi a 5-4 victory. The Timberwolves led 4-1 entering the third period, but saw the Rapids score three unanswered goals to tie the score late in the frame.
Jacob Lachance gave the Timberwolves a 2-0 lead in the first period, scoring both times from the slot. Alexis Doucet then made it 3-0 before the end of the period.
Miramichi added a fourth goal at the 5-minute mark of the middle frame, courtesy of Dawson Peverelle. Then the Rapids scored their first goal at 7:57 when Jonah Leard tipped a puck past goaltender Jessy Cormier.
The Rapids’ comeback in the third started with Reid Calder’s tally at 7:48. Entering the game, the Rapids were 0 for 15 on the power play, but they finally ended that drought at the mid-way point of the third period on a goal from Antoine l’Italien.
The tying goal came at 16:07. Coming from behind the net, Jayden Burtt-Munn took control of a loose puck to the side of the crease, tying the game 4-4.
When it appeared the game would need extra time, the Timberwolves found a way to skate away with the victory, a goal that was registered at 20:00.
Jacob Lachance (2g 1a) and Ethan Dickson (1g 3a) led the way offensively for Miramichi. Jayden Burtt-Munn and Reid Calder both finished the game with 1g 1a for Grand Falls.
Noah-Preston Moore faced a total of 41 shots between the pipes for the Rapids who will play their next game on Sunday afternoon against the Campbellton Tigers. Puck drop is at 3pm at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
