Samedi soir (hors concours) : BLIZZARD 6 RAPIDES 5
EDMUNDSTON– Noah Matulu a marqué deux fois alors que le Blizzard d’Edmundston a disposé des Rapides de Grand-Sault au compte de 6-5 samedi soir lors du premier match hors concours pour chacune des deux formations.
Matulu a terminé sa soirée de travail avec une récolte de 3 points (2b 1p) alors que Bryce Thompson amassait également 3 points à sa fiche pour les Rapides avec une performance de 1 but et 2 mentions d’aide.
Ce sont 2064 spectateurs qui assistaient à cette rencontre disputée au Centre Jean-Daigle d’Edmundston. Puisque la majorité des joueurs présents tentent toujours de se tailler un poste auprès de leur alignement respectif, plusieurs nouveaux venus se retrouvaient sur la patinoire pour ce premier match préparatoire.
Six buts ont été enregistrés en première période alors que les Rapides ont dominé 12-9 au chapitre des tirs au but. Angelo Fullerton a été le premier à noircir la feuille de pointage pour les visiteurs à 1 :08 au début de la rencontre, mais seulement 22 secondes plus tard, Peter Amanatidis nivelait le pointage du côté du Blizzard.
Grand-Sault a pris les devants 2-1 avec l’avantage d’un homme à 6 :07 par l’entremise de Carson Rideout et menait 3-2 à la 9e minute de jeu sur une belle pièce de jeu de Bryce Thompson qui a trompé la vigilance du gardien Matthew Parker lors d’une échappée. Noah Matulu et Jacob Long ont complété le pointage pour Edmundston.
À noter que Noah Visser était le gardien de but partant du côté des Rapides.
Le Blizzard a démontré beaucoup de combativité en zone adverse en début de deuxième période, mais le pointage est tout de même demeuré à égalité jusqu’à 9 :42 lorsque Mathieu Pelletier, originaire de St-Jacques, a procuré aux locaux leur première avance dans le match. Puis lors d’une infériorité numérique à 14 :33, un autre produit local a trouvé le fond du filet, soit Noah Gibbs, permettant ainsi au Blizzard de prendre une avance de 5-3.
Edmundston a dominé la deuxième période 15-6 pour les tirs au but alors que Alex Myatt a succédé à Noah Visser devant le filet des Rapides, soit mi-chemin dans l’engagement.
Le Blizzard a ajouté son sixième filet à 5 :46 en troisième période sur le deuxième but de la rencontre de Noah Matulu. Les Rapides ont assuré la réplique avec deux buts avant la fin du temps réglementaire : Cody Rossignol, originaire de St-Léonard, a marqué sur un retour de lancer devant le filet alors que Jean Remy Leblanc (en avantage numérique) a porté le compte 6-5 à l’aide d’un tir des poignets provenant de la ligne bleue.
Les deux mêmes équipes croiseront le fer à nouveau dimanche soir, cette fois au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal de Grand-Sault à compter de 19h30.

Saturday night (exhibition): BLIZZARD 6 RAPIDS 5
EDMUNDSTON – Noah Matulu scored two goals as the Edmundston Blizzard skated away with a 6-5 victory Saturday night on home ice during opening night of the exhibition schedule for both teams.
Matulu ended the contest with 3 points to his credit (2g 1a) while Bryce Thompson also picked up 3 points for the Rapids with a performance of 1g and 2a.
A crowd of 2064 was on hand for the game played at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston. Since both teams still have many players fighting for a spot on their respective roster, many newcomers were on the ice for this season’s first exhibition tilt.
Six goals were scored in the opening period as the Rapids dominated 12-9 in shots on goal. Angelo Fullerton got Grand Falls on the board at 1:08, but 22 seconds later, Peter Amanatidis tied the score for the Blizzard.
Grand Falls took a 2-1 lead with the man advantage at 6:07 on a goal from Carson Rideout and led 3-2 at the 9-minute mark on a beautiful goal from Bryce Thompson as he beat goaltender Matthew Parker on a breakaway. Noah Matulu and Jacob Long added to the scoring for the Blizzard.
Noah Visser started the game between the pipes for the Rapids.
The Blizzard came out strong in the opening minutes of the second period, but the score remained tied until 9:42 of the frame when Mathieu Pelletier of St.Jacques gave Edmundston its first lead of the night. Then while shorthanded at 14:33, another local product found the back of the net for Edmundston as Noah Gibbs gave his team a 5-3 lead.
Edmundston shot 15 times on net against 6 for Grand Falls in the middle frame. Alex Myatt replaced Noah Visser in goal for Grand Falls at the mid way point of the period.
The Blizzard added their sixth goal at 5:46 of the third period on Noah Matulu’s second tally of the night. The Rapids responded with two goals of their own before the end of regulation time: Cody Rossignol, a product of nearby St.Leonard, scored on a rebound in front of the Blizzard net and on a wrist shot from the blue line, Jean Remy Leblanc (on a power play) added the Rapids’ fifth goal.
Both teams meet again on Sunday night, but this time at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre in Grand Falls. Puck drop will be at 7:30pm.
