LES RAPIDES S’INCLINENT POUR UNE DEUXIÈME FOIS CONSÉCUTIVE DEVANT LE BLIZZARD
EDMUNDSTON – Le Blizzard a réussi à combler un déficit de 2-0, inscrivant 7 buts sans réplique, pour finalement l’emporter au compte de 7-3 samedi soir à domicile devant les Rapides.
Joshua Nadeau a mené l’offensive des vainqueurs avec une solide performance de 3 buts et 2 mentions d’aide.
Les unités spéciales ont été un facteur déterminant dans cette rencontre alors que les deux formations ont chacun réussi à marquer trois fois avec l’avantage d’un homme. Le Blizzard a dominé la rencontre au chapitre des tirs au but, 41-30.
Tout semblait baigner dans l’huile pour les Rapides en première période après qu’ils étaient parvenus à prendre une avance de deux buts. Le point tournant du match a toutefois été le tout premier filet accordé au Blizzard en fin de période alors que la troupe de Brad Mackenzie semblait en parfait contrôle de la situation. La formation d’Edmundston réduisait ainsi l’écart à un seul but et tout a été leur avantage lors des deux périodes subséquentes.
L’entraîneur-chef des Rapides admet que ses protégés ont dû affronter une équipe beaucoup plus compétitive, et ce, pendant 60 minutes de jeu.
« Nos adversaires ont travaillé plus fort que nous ce soir alors qu’ils ont été plus compétitifs. Nous avons laissé de côté notre plan de match tard en première période et nous n’avons jamais été capables de remonter la pente, » mentionne Brad Mackenzie.
En effet, la formation de Grand-Sault avait pourtant entrepris le match en force. Visiblement confiants de leur victoire remportée la veille à Campbellton, les Rapides n’ont pas tardé à s’inscrire au pointage alors qu’ils ont profité d’une supériorité numérique pour surprendre leurs adversaires.
Drew Toner a pris contrôle d’une rondelle déviée dans l’enclave et a dirigé un tir parfait qui a trompé la vigilance du gardien Antoine Lyonnais du Blizzard alors qu’il n’y avait seulement que 38 secondes d’écoulées au match.
Le Blizzard a rapidement pris contrôle du jeu par la suite, mais le gardien Gio DiMattia a été solide, bloquant tout sur son passage. Il a même permis à sa formation d’écouler deux pénalités mineures consécutives mi-chemin dans l’engagement.
Grand-Sault a profité d’un autre avantage numérique pour doubler son avance à 11 :07. Cette fois, c’est le défenseur Matthew MacKay qui a vu son tir de la ligne bleue se rendre jusqu’au fond du filet avec beaucoup de circulation devant le gardien du Blizzard.
Les locaux ont tout de même été en mesure de s’inscrire au pointage avant la fin du premier vingt, gracieuseté de Joshua Nadeau qui a fait dévier une passe dans le fond du filet.
Chaque équipe a dirigé 13 tirs au but en première période alors que les Rapides étaient en avance 2-1.
Si le momentum semblait pencher du côté des Rapides en première période, c’est plutôt le Blizzard qui a dominé le deuxième vingt, refoulant leurs adversaires profondément dans leur territoire tout en dirigeant 16 tirs en direction du filet adverse contre seulement 7 pour Grand-Sault.
Félix Laniel est venu créer l’égalité à 9 :04 lorsqu’il a réussi à prendre contrôle d’une rondelle libre devant le filet, dirigeant un tir dans la partie supérieure.
Le Blizzard a pris les devants à 15 :25 lors d’une supériorité numérique. À la suite d’une mise en jeu remportée en territoire des Rapides, Paul Leroux s’est vu crédité du but lorsque sa passe a dévié sur un joueur adverse devant le filet.
Edmundston retraitait ainsi au vestiaire en avance 3-2 après quarante minutes de jeu.
Le Blizzard a frappé tôt en troisième période, inscrivant 4 buts sans réplique lors des 7 premières minutes de jeu de l’engagement. À 1 :26, Isaac Chapman a ajouté le 4e filet des siens à l’aide d’un tir du côté de la mitaine du gardien. Le Blizzard a marqué deux fois en supériorité numérique avec les buts de Joshua Nadeau (3 :38) et Paul Leroux (5 :26) qui enfilaient chacun leur deuxième but de la rencontre. Nadeau a complété son tour du chapeau à 7 :30 à l’aide d’une belle feinte devant le filet des Rapides.
Finalement, Matthew MacKay a enregistré le troisième but des visiteurs et son deuxième de la partie alors que sa formation évoluait avec un avantage numérique de deux hommes. MacKay, qui marquait son 3e de la saison, a dirigé un tir dans la partie supérieure du filet pour tromper la vigilance du gardien.
Les Rapides terminent donc leur week-end avec un dossier de .500, soit 1 gain et 1 revers. Ils disputeront leur prochaine partie à domicile alors qu’ils accueilleront vendredi soir la visite des Timberwolves de Miramichi à compter de 19h30 au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal.

THE BLIZZARD WIN THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE GAME AGAINST THE RAPIDS
EDMUNDSTON – The Blizzard erased a two-goal deficit by scoring seven unanswered goals, which led the way to a 7-3 victory Saturday night on home ice against the Rapids.
Joshua Nadeau led the way offensively for Edmundston with a hat trick and 2 assists for a 5-point night.
Special teams were a big factor in the outcome of the game as both teams netted 3 power play goals. The Blizzard dominated the contest in shots on goal, 41 to 30.
Everything seemed to be going the Rapids’ way early on as they were able to take a 2-0 lead in the opening period. The turning point of the game was the first goal allowed by the Rapids late in the frame as they were in control of the contest at that point. Edmundston was able to cut the lead to 2-1 and they were dominant for the remainder of the game.
Rapids’ head coach Brad Mackenzie mentioned after the game that Edmundston was the more competitive team during the entire 60 minutes of play.
“Plain and simple, we got outworked tonight. We got away from our game late in the first period and never got it back”.
As a matter of fact, Grand Falls had a great start to opening period.
Noticeably confident from their first win of the season Friday night in Campbellton, the Rapids did not waste any time to get on the board as they took advantage of an early Blizzard penalty.
Drew Toner took control of a pass that was tipped into the slot, sending a wrister that beat Edmundston goalie Antoine Lyonnais with only 38 seconds played in the opening frame.
The Blizzard took control of the game immediately after that first goal from the Rapids, but netminder Gio DiMattia stood tall, blocking every shot he faced and leaving no rebounds in front of his net. DiMattia was also instrumental in helping his team kill two consecutive minor penalties mid way in the period.
Grand Falls doubled its lead, scoring another power play goal at 11:07. This time, it was defenseman Matthew MacKay who took a shot from the point that found its way through traffic, beating the Edmundston goaltender.
The Blizzard did however get on the board before the end of the period when Joshua Nadeau tipped a pass in front of the net, bringing the score to 2-1 in favour of the Rapids.
Each team sent 13 shots on net in the first twenty minutes of play.
If momentum seemed on the Rapids’ side in the opening period, it wasn’t the case in the middle frame as the Blizzard dominated the pace of play, keeping their opponents deep into their own territory while sending a total of 16 shots on goal compared to only 7 for Grand Falls.
Félix Laniel tied the score at 9:04 after he was able to take control of a loose puck in front, sending a shot to the top corner of the net.
The Blizzard took the lead at 15:25 while playing with the man advantage. After winning the faceoff in Rapids’ territory, Edmundston took control of the play immediately. Paul Leroux’s pass was deflected by an opponent in front of the net, which gave the locals a 3-2 lead after two periods of play.
The Blizzard struck early in the third, scoring four unanswered goals during the first 7 minutes of play. At 1:26, Isaac Chapman added Edmundston’s fourth goal with a shot on the glove side of DiMattia. The Blizzard pushed their lead to 6-2 with two more power play goals: Joshua Nadeau at 3:38 and Paul Leroux at 5:26 both added their second goals of the contest. Nadeau completed his hat trick at 7:30 after he made a great move in front of the Rapids’ net.
Finally, at 15:50, Matthew MacKay scored the Rapids’ third goal as well as his second of the game while his team was playing on a 5 on 3-man advantage. MacKay, who tallied his 3rd goal of the season, sent a shot into the top corner of the net, beating goalie Antoine Lyonnais.
The Rapids finish the weekend with a .500 record and will play their next game on home ice as they will face the Miramichi Timberwolves on Friday night. Puck drop will be at 7:30 at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
