LES RAPIDES S’INCLINENT, MAIS DÉMONTRENT DES SIGNES TRÈS ENCOURAGEANTS
GRAND-SAULT – Il ne s’agissait que de leur deuxième match hors concours de la saison 2020-2021, mais déjà, les Rapides démontrent des signes très encourageants en vue de la prochaine campagne. Avec 38 lancers dirigés en direction du filet adverse, la troupe de l’entraîneur Brad Mackenzie représente une formation beaucoup plus explosive sur le plan offensif alors que l’exécution ainsi que les jeux de passes sont rapides et les chances de marquer en territoire adverse se multiplient davantage. Même la défensive supporte très bien l’attaque, malgré le fait que l’on a réussi à jouer un style très serré dans son propre territoire en bloquant plusieurs tirs de la part des Tigres.
Le pointage final n’a toutefois pas été en faveur des Rapides alors que les Tigres de Campbellton ont profité de leurs chances de marquer au maximum pour finalement l’emporter au compte de 4-3 grâce au filet victorieux de Griffin Peers à 11 :58 du troisième vingt. Daryk Dubé-Plouffe a fait bouger les cordages à trois reprises pour Campbellton, dont deux buts enregistrés en troisième période. Vincent Drolet, Anthony Parent et Jérémie Gagnon ont assuré la réplique du côté des Rapides.
Les Tigres ont ouvert la marque très tôt en première période suite à un revirement en territoire adverse. Maxime Charest a remporté la bataille dans le coin de la patinoire et a dirigé une passe parfaite devant le filet à Daryk-Dubé Plouffe qui a déjoué le gardien à l’aide d’un tir sur réception.
Les Rapides n’ont pas été en mesure de marquer lors de leur première opportunité sur le jeu de puissance, mais ils n’ont pas raté leur chance à la deuxième occasion. Avec moins de 5 minutes à écouler dans l’engagement, le défenseur Vincent Drolet prenait un retour de lancer de l’arrière du filet pour ensuite rediriger la rondelle du côté le plus rapproché du gardien Tristan Gray. Nash Smith et Jérémie Gagnon ont amassé des mentions d’aide sur le premier filet de Drolet en matchs préparatoires.
Gio DiMattia, un choix de 5e ronde des Rapides lors du repêchage de 2020, a fait face à 4 tirs seulement de la part des Tigres en première période. Son vis-à-vis a été un peu plus occupé, faisant face à 15 lancers.
En deuxième, les Rapides ont connu une autre bonne séquence sur le plan offensif, dirigeant 12 tirs en direction du filet adverse tout en démontrant beaucoup de vitesse et obtenant d’excellentes chances de marquer autour du filet de Tristan Gray.
Anthony Parent a procuré les devants aux locaux à 11 :46 suite à une belle percée en territoire adverse. Il a réussi à contourner la défensive pour ensuite marquer sur un tir du revers d’une seule main.
Parent, natif de Kedgwick (NB), a disputé 35 matchs la saison dernière avec le Northern Moose de la ligue Midget AAA NB/IPE.
Après quarante minutes de jeu, les Rapides menaient 2-1 au pointage ainsi que 27-10 au chapitre des tirs au but.
Daryk Dubé Plouffe a égalisé le pointage à 2:25 en troisième à l’aide d’un tir du revers puis seulement 18 secondes plus tard, il complétait son tour du chapeau à l’aide d’un tir parfait vers le côté le plus éloigné du filet.
Les Rapides ont réussi à niveler le pointage à 8 :02 sur le deuxième but de Jérémie Gagnon en matchs préparatoires. Ce dernier a fait dévier un tir de Nash Smith, permettant aux siens de porter la marque 3-3. Cependant, à 11 :56, Griffin Peers a donné les devants aux Tigres pour de bon en marquant sur un retour de lancer devant le filet.
Chaque équipe a dirigé 11 tirs au filet au cours du troisième engagement, mais les Rapides ont dominé le match à ce chapitre, 38-21.
Au terme du match, l’entraîneur Brad Mackenzie était très satisfait de la performance de ses protégés.
« Notre alignement comprenait des joueurs très jeunes, mais j’ai bien apprécié leur vitesse et la façon qu’ils ont évolué selon l’identité que nous voulons donner à l’équipe, et ce, pendant presque tout le match. Nous avons raté quelques bonnes chances de marquer et nous avons commis quelques erreurs qui ont couté des buts. Cependant, je suis très heureux de l’effort de mes joueurs ».
Cette identité dont mentionne l’entraîneur Mackenzie commence déjà a faire ses preuves sur la patinoire, même si l’alignement demeure encore à être complété.

*Vendredi (2 octobre), les Rapides seront à Campbellton pour affronter les Tigres à compter de 19h00. Puis dimanche (4 octobre), les deux mêmes équipes se donnent rendez-vous à nouveau, mais cette fois au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal à partir de 15h00 en après-midi.

RAPIDS LOSE A CLOSE GAME, BUT SHOW SIGNS OF A VERY DIFFERENT TEAM
GRAND FALLS – It was only their second exhibition game of the 2020-2021 campaign but already, the Rapids have shown signs of a promising team for the season ahead. With an outburst of 38 shots on goal, Brad Mackenzie’s squad is a much different one up front with great speed and quick execution of its passes in the opposing end which generates great scoring chances. Even the defense supports the play at the other end, even though the d-men played a tight game on Friday night while blocking many shots from their opponents.
The final score did not go to the Rapids favour however as the visiting Campbellton Tigers took care of every great scoring opportunity they had, skating away with a 4-3 victory with Griffin Peers’ game winner at 11:58 of the third period, breaking a 3-3 deadlock. Daryk Dubé-Plouffe scored three times for Campbellton, including two quick tallies in the final frame. Vincent Drolet, Anthony Parent and Jérémie Gagnon replied for Grand Falls.
The Tigers got on the board early in the first period following a battle in the corner. Maxime Charest took possession of the puck and sent a quick pass in front to Daryk Dubé-Plouffe who scored on a one-timer, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Rapids failed to score on their first power play opportunity of the game at the 8-minute mark, but they did cash in on their second chance with less than 5 minutes remaining in the frame. Defenseman Vincent Drolet, who played a solid game at both ends, took control of a puck that came out from the back boards and fired it into the short side of goalie Tristan Gray. Nash Smith and Jérémie Gagnon assisted on Drolet’s first goal of the exhibition season.
Gio DiMattia, a 5th-round pick by the Rapids in the 2020 draft, faced 4 shots on goal in the opening period while Gray stopped 14 of the Rapids’ 15 shots.
Grand Falls had another great offensive output in the middle frame, sending 12 shots on goal while showing great speed and getting some good scoring opportunities around the net.
Anthony Parent gave the Rapids the lead at 11:46 with a great rush into the Tigers’ end, getting by a defenseman and sending a backhand shot over Tristan Gray’s stick. Parent, a native of Kedgwick NB, played in 35 games last season for the Northern Moose of the NB/PEI Midget league.
Through two periods of play, the Rapids outshot the Tigers 27-10 while also leading in the game by a score of 2-1.
Daryk Dubé Plouffe tied the score at 2:25 of the third period with a backhand shot. Then just 18 seconds later, he completed his hat trick with a perfect wrister to the far side of goalie Gio DiMattia.
The Rapids did manage to tie the score at 8:02 on Jérémie Gagnon’s second goal of the exhibition schedule, as he tipped in a shot from Nash Smith to make it 3-3. Then at 11:56, Griffin Peers gave the Tigers the lead for good, scoring on a rebound in front of the Rapids’ net. Shots were even 11-11 in the final frame, but Grand Falls domninated the game in that department, 38 to 21.
Head coach Brad Mackenzie was very satisfied of his team’s performance on Friday night.
“Even though we had a young lineup for the game, I thought our guys skated very well and played to our team’s identity for most of the contest. We had some great scoring chances that we couldn’t cash in and we had a few breakdowns that ended up in the back of the net. But I’m very happy with the effort tonight”.
The team identity which coach Mackenzie mentions is starting to show on the ice, even though the final roster is still to be determined.
