LES RAPIDES S’INCLINENT DE JUSTESSE DEVANT LES TIGRES
GRAND-SAULT – Tout avait mal débuté pour les Rapides de Grand-Sault vendredi soir. Après avoir tiré de l’arrière 4-0 après vingt minutes de jeu face aux Tigres de Campbellton, la troupe de l’entraîneur Greg Leland accusait même un déficit de 5-0 au terme de deux périodes.
Ce qui était encore plus frustrant toutefois, c’était que l’équipe jouait très bien malgré tout : aucun joueur n’avait visité le cachot avant d’entreprendre le troisième engagement et les Rapides étaient parvenus à appuyer beaucoup de pression sur leurs adversaires, tout en dominant le temps de possession de la rondelle. Cependant, tout cet effort ne paraissait aucunement sur la feuille de pointage, de quoi faire grimper le niveau de frustration. C’est finalement en troisième période où la chance a finalement souri aux Rapides alors qu’ils ont enfilé quatre buts sans réplique. Ils ont toutefois dû s’avouer vaincus par la marque de 5-4 devant une foule de 712 spectateurs réunie au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal.
Keifer Lyons a obtenu un tour du chapeau pour les Tigres qui ont été dominés 24-20 au chapitre des tirs au but. Campbellton n’a d’ailleurs dirigé que 4 rondelles sur le filet de Frédéric Plourde en troisième période.
Avec ce revers, la fiche des Rapides est maintenant de 1 victoire et 4 défaites, situant l’équipe au 6e échelon de la division Eastlink Nord.
Tel que mentionné, ce ne fut pas le début de match que les Rapides auraient souhaité alors que leurs opposants ont enregistré 4 filets avant la 13e minute de jeu du premier engagement.
Austin Arsenault a ouvert la marque pour les visiteurs lors d’une descente à deux contre un à 7 :07. Keifer Lyons est ensuite venu ajouter à l’avance des siens avec son premier but du match à 9 :19.
Ryan Hackett a porté la marque 3-0 en faveur de Campbellton seulement 52 secondes plus tard. Puis à 12 :44, Lyons est venu inscrire son second but de la rencontre à l’aide d’un tir vif qui a trompé la vigilance du gardien du côté le plus éloigné du filet.
Les tirs au but après vingt minutes de jeu étaient 11-8 en faveur des Tigres.
Les Rapides n’ont jamais lâché en deuxième, mais ils ont quand même disputé une 6e période consécutive sans avoir inscrit un but. Un seul filet a été marqué lors de la période médiane, soit le troisième de la soirée de Keifer Lyons après qu’il eut réussi à contourner le filet pour ensuite faire bouger les cordages.
Mi-chemin en période, les Rapides étaient légèrement en avance au chapitre des tirs au but; mais après quarante minutes de jeu, c’était l’égalité à ce chapitre (16-16).
Soit que les Tigres ont eu un laisser-aller ou un excès de confiance en troisième période ou que c’était les Dieux du hockey qui venaient finalement récompenser l’effort d’équipe. Peu importe, les Rapides sont revenus dans le match en enfilant quatre buts sans réplique. Même si la remontée n’a pu être complétée, cette solide prestation en troisième servira sûrement d’un élément de confiance en vue de l’affrontement de dimanche après-midi face au Blizzard d’Edmundston.
Mathis Huot a sonné la charge tôt en troisième lors d’une échappée seul avec le gardien. Il s’agissait d’un premier but en saison régulière pour Huot.
Yannic Bastarache a inscrit le deuxième filet des locaux et son 5e de la campagne à 10 :27. Il s’agissait aussi d’un 3e but en supériorité numérique cette saison pour le natif de Bouctouche.
À 17 :04, Bryce Thompson a marqué à l’aide d’un tir sur réception à partir du cercle des mises en jeu, réduisant l’avance des Tigres à deux buts.
Puis avec 1 :27 à écouler, Seth Thompson a marqué lors d’un jeu de puissance pour porter le pointage 5-4.
Les Rapides tenteront de mettre un terme à une séquence de trois revers consécutifs en accueillant la visite du Blizzard d’Edmundston dimanche après-midi. Le match se mettra en branle à compter de 15h00 au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal.

RAPIDS’ COMEBACK FALLS JUST SHORT
GRAND FALLS – It started out as a very frustrating night for the Grand Falls Rapids who fell behind 4-0 to the Cambellton Tigers after twenty minutes of play and 5-0 through two periods.
What was so frustrating was the fact that the team played well despite the score: no single player visited the penalty box through two periods and the Rapids were able to press their opponents, gain puck control, and stay poised. Despite all that, it appeared that nothing was to show for such a great effort. But they finally were rewarded for their work in the third period as they scored four unanswered goals, before falling short in a 5-4 defeat to the Tigers in front of 712 fans at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
Keifer Lyons scored three goals for the Tigers who were outshot 24 to 20 in the game, sending only 4 pucks on goalkeeper Frédéric Plourde in the third period.
With the loss, the Rapids fall to 6th place in the Eastlink North division standings with a record of 1 win and 4 defeats.
It didn’t start out well for Greg Leland’s squad as they were down 4-0 before the 13th minute of play of the opening period.
Austin Arseneault opened the scoring for the visitors on a two-on-one break at 7:07. That goal was followed by Keifer Lyons’ first of the game at 9:19.
Ryan Hackett made it 3-0 for Campbellton only 52 seconds later, then at 12:44, Lyons’ second of the night was scored with a quick shot from the side of the net, beating the Rapids’ netminder on the stick side.
Shots on goal were 11-8 in favour of the Tigers in the opening frame.
The Rapids never gave up entering the second period, but still went scoreless for a 6th consecutive period over a span of three games. One goal was all that was needed to get the offense going, but it was the Tigers who added to their lead with Keifer Lyons’ third goal of then night following a wraparound from behind the net.
Halfway in the game, Grand Falls had the advantage in shots on goal, but after two periods of play, shots were even at 16-16.
Either it was a letdown by the Tigers or simply the Hockey Gods finally rewarding team effort, but the third period went the Rapids’ way. They scored four unanswered goals, the last one coming at 18:33. It was an exciting last 1:27 as fans were hoping for a miracle comeback. Despite coming up just short, this valiant effort may just be a great confidence builder for Sunday afternoon’s matchup against the Edmundston Blizzard.
Mathis Huot got things started off in the third with a beautiful breakaway goal at 1:11. It was Huot’s first regular season tally as a Rapid.
Then Yannic Bastarache added the second goal and his 5th of the campaign at 10:27 which came with the man advantage. It was also a 3rd PP goal for the Bouctouche native this season.
At 17:04, Bryce Thompson scored on a one-timer from the face off circle, cutting Campbellton’s lead to 5-3.
That was followed with Seth Thompson’s first of the season while his team was on the power play with only 1:27 left in the third.
The Rapids will try to put an end to their 3-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon as they host the Edmundston Blizzard. Puck drop is at 3pm at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
