LES RAPIDES S’INCLINENT 4-2 DEVANT LES RED WINGS
GRAND-SAULT – Les Red Wings de Fredericton ont marqué trois buts en deuxième période, s’accrochant ainsi à leur mince avance en route vers un gain de 4-2 dimanche après-midi aux dépens des Rapides lors d’un match intra-division de grande importance.
Avec ce revers, Grand-Sault accuse maintenant un retard de 6 points sur les Red Wings dans la division Eastlink Nord. Les Rapides demeurent cependant à 4 points des Tigres de Campbellton pour l’obtention du 4e rang au classement.
Malgré le fait qu’ils disputaient un troisième match en trois jours, les Red Wings ont accompli ce que beaucoup d’équipes n’ont pas été en mesure de faire tout récemment face aux Rapides, soit maintenir ces derniers à seulement deux opportunités sur le jeu de puissance tout en appliquant une solide structure en défensive du début jusqu’à la toute fin.
Dès le début des hostilités, c’est un véritable duel défensif qui a eu lieu entre ces deux formations alors que le temps de possession de la rondelle était très minime d’une séquence offensive à l’autre.
Toutefois, le gardien Tyriq Outen a dû se surpasser lors de deux échappés de la part des Red Wings, et ce, avec un peu moins de 12 minutes à jouer dans l’engagement.
Un peu plus tard en période, alors que les deux équipes évoluaient à 4 contre 4, les Rapides ont obtenu leurs meilleurs moments en territoire adverse et en ont profité pour prendre les devants. En s’amenant à proximité du cercle des mises en jeu, le défenseur Isaac Dixon y est allé d’un tir des poignets du côté le plus rapproché du filet, inscrivant son premier but de la campagne.
Les lancers au but étaient 14-11 en faveur des Rapides qui ont été solides sur le plan défensif, évitant de brillante façon les tirs dangereux provenant de l’enclave.
Les Red Wings ont débuté le deuxième engagement en appliquant beaucoup de pression en territoire des Rapides, dominants même 10-0 pour les tirs au but à un certain moment. Ils ont été récompensés tôt en période en ajoutant le but égalisateur sur un tir parfait des poignets de Adam Zimmerman, soit à 3 :29.
Puis lors d’une supériorité numérique, les Rapides ont payé le prix pour une mauvaise sortie de zone alors que Nathan Kelly a récupéré une rondelle libre pour ensuite se présenter seul devant le gardien, marquant sur son propre retour de lancer pour procurer les devants aux visiteurs à 14 :22, et ce, en désavantage numérique.
Seulement 6 secondes après que la pénalité mineure aux Red Wings eut pris fin, les Rapides ont égalisé le pointage à 15 :19 lors d’un tir sur réception de Zac Arsenault qui avait reçu une passe transversale parfaite de la part de Lucas Joly.
La formation de Fredericton n’a pas mis de temps à reprendre les devants, soit à 16 :27. Lors d’un jeu de puissance, Liam Smith a poussé une rondelle libre sous le gardien des Rapides qui était couché de tout son long sur la patinoire après avoir effectué un premier arrêt.
Les Red Wings, qui ont dominé 19-12 pour les tirs au but en deuxième période, étaient donc en avance 3–2 après quarante minutes de jeu.
Les Red Wings se sont accrochés à leur mince avance en troisième alors qu’ils ont appliqué un solide échec-avant, tout en bloquant plusieurs tirs qui étaient dirigés vers le filet. Ils ont ainsi empêché leurs opposants de gagner tout momentum possible, surtout en déblayant leur territoire devant chaque menace imminente.
Fredericton a enregistré le but d’assurance à 17 :36 sur le deuxième filet de la campagne de Aiden MacIntosh, enlevant tout espoir aux Rapides de revenir dans le match.
Tyriq Outen, qui a dû affronter un total de 39 lancers dont 19 en deuxième période, a été nommé la troisième étoile de la partie. Liam Smith s’est mérité la première étoile en vertu de son filet victorieux alors que Ethan Stuckless (1 passe) a été choisi la troisième étoile.
Shon-Olivier Roy a connu un bon match en attaque du côté des Rapides avec une récolte de 2 mentions d’aide.
Les Rapides seront en action à trois reprises lors du prochain week-end. Ils recevront d’abord vendredi soir la visite des Lumberjacks de South Shore avant de se rendre samedi à Fredericton pour disputer la victoire aux Red Wings. Puis ils reviendront au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal dimanche en après-midi pour affronter le Blizzard d’Edmundston.

RAPIDS DROP A 4-2 DECISION TO THE RED WINGS
GRAND FALLS – The Fredericton Red Wings scored three times in the second period, holding on to a 4-2 victory Sunday afternoon against the Rapids in an important division matchup played at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre in Grand Falls.
The loss leaves the Rapids 6 points behind the Red Wings in the Eastlink North division standings, but Grand Falls remains 4 points back of the Campbellton Tigers for the 4th and last remaining playoff spot.
Despite playing a third game in three days, the Red Wings were able to accomplish what most teams were unable to do against the Rapids lately, which is hold them to only two power play opportunities while playing a well structured defensive game throughout the entire sixty minutes of play.
From the first drop of the puck, it became a defensive struggle between both teams as puck possession didn’t last very long from one play to the next.
However, Tyriq Outen had to come up with a couple of key saves on breakaways with just under 12 minutes remaining in the period. Then later on, while playing 4 on 4, the Rapids had their best moments in the Red Wings’ zone and capitalized to take the lead. Coming off the faceoff circle, defenseman Isaac Dixon sent a wrist shot over the blocker of goaltender Jack Grant, scoring his first of the season.
Shots on goal were 14 to 11 in favour of the Rapids who played a close tight checking game while keeping their opponents out of shooting range from up close.
In the second period, the Red Wings, who led 10-0 in shots on goal at one point, applied lots of pressure in the opposing zone and were rewarded with an early goal to tie the game. Adam Zimmerman’s shot went over Tyriq Outen’s blocker side to bring things all even at 3:29.
Then while on a power play, the Rapids got caught making a bad pass in their own end. Nathan Kelly took control of the puck and went in alone on the netminder, scoring on his own rebound to give the Red Wings the lead on a shorthanded tally at 14:22.
But as the penalty came to an end, the Rapids tied the score at 15:19 on Zac Arsenault’s one-timer after he received a perfect cross-ice pass from Lucas Joly.
It didn’t take long however for the visitors to regain the lead. With the man advantage, Liam Smith put in a rebound under Ty Outen who had made the initial save. The goal came at 16:27, giving the Red Wings a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. Fredericton led 19 to 12 in shots on goal in the middle frame.
With the lead going into the final period, the Red Wings played a great forechecking game while blocking shots and stopping any momentum from being gained on the Rapids’ side, icing the puck on each scoring threat.
They added an insurance goal at 17:36 as Aiden MacIntosh tallied his second goal of the season, making it 4-2 and ending any hopes of a comeback for Grand Falls.
Tyriq Outen faced 39 shots and was named the third star of the game for keeping his team in the contest, notably in the second period. Liam Smith was named the first star with his game winning tally while Ethan Stuckless (1 assist) was awarded the second star.
Shon-Olivier Roy had a good game offensively for the Rapids, picking up 2 assists.
The Rapids will be in action on three occasions next weekend. They will host the South Shore Lumberjacks on Friday night before traveling to Fredericton to play the Red Wings on Saturday. Then they return to the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre on Sunday afternoon as they clash once again with the Edmundston Blizzard.
