LES RAPIDES REMPORTENT UNE DEUXIÈME VICTOIRE CONSÉCUTIVE
GRAND-SAULT – Les Rapides ont disputé un autre match intense et bien balancé sur plusieurs aspects du jeu, prenant la mesure des Tigres de Campbellton dimanche après-midi à domicile par la marque de 7-2.
Les Rapides complètent donc leur week-end avec deux gains sur la patinoire du Centre E.&P. Sénéchal, ce qui leur permet de se remettre dans la course pour l’obtention d’une place en séries. La formation de Grand-Sault accuse présentement un retard de 4 points sur les Timberwolves de Miramichi pour l’obtention du 4e rang au classement dans la division Eastlink Nord.
Comme ce fut le cas vendredi soir dernier, c’est un nouveau venu chez les Rapides qui s’est mérité les honneurs de la première étoile de la partie dimanche. Ethan Johnson, qui a joint le premier trio offensif dès son arrivée à Grand-Sault, a connu un excellent match avec une performance de 1 but et 3 aides. Son compagnon de trio Yannic Bastarache a lui aussi été une figure dominante dans la victoire, inscrivant 2 buts tout en ajoutant 2 mentions d’aide. Bastarache a d’ailleurs récolté 7 points au cours des deux dernières rencontres, soit 4 buts et 3 passes.
Il s’agissait d’un véritable travail collectif de la part des Rapides, même si l’on a écopé de quelques pénalités d’indiscipline en territoire adverse. Contrairement à leurs adversaires, les Rapides ont été les plus opportunistes et se sont permis de prendre les devants tôt dans la rencontre pour signer une 16e victoire cette saison.
Le jeu de puissance, qui avait connu des ennuis lors de la séquence de 8 matchs sans victoire, a maintenant produit 5 buts en deux matchs, dont 3 dimanche face aux Tigres.
Dominic LeBlanc, avec son 14e de la saison, a ouvert le pointage pour Grand-Sault lors d’une supériorité numérique à 1 :52. Cole McWilliam a porté l’avance des locaux à deux buts à 7 :52 à l’aide d’un retour de lancer devant le filet adverse.
Les Tigres ont dominé 16-15 au chapitre des tirs au but lors du premier vingt, démontrant à quel point le gardien Frédéric Plourde a été dominant devant sa cage.
Les Rapides ont inscrit quatre buts sans réplique lors de la période médiane, prenant les devants 5-0. Ethan Johnson a marqué tôt (59 secondes) alors que Yannic Bastarache a ajouté son 20e filet de la campagne à 2 :29 lors d’une supériorité numérique. Il s’agissait d’ailleurs d’un 9e filet pour Bastarache cette saison en avantage numérique.
Ben Diamond, avec son 16e de la campagne, a porté le pointage 5-0 à 15 :31, également avec l’avantage d’un homme. Les Tigres ont enregistré leur premier but à 16 :19 sur un tir dévié devant le filet, gracieuseté de Bates Ling, son premier cette saison.
Josh Russell, qui avait récolté un tour du chapeau vendredi soir contre Miramichi, a ajouté son 5e but de la campagne en marquant à 28 secondes de jeu en troisième période, permettant aux Rapides de prendre une avance de 6-1.
Justin David a inscrit le deuxième but des visiteurs à 8 :36. Yannic Bastarache a pour sa part ajouté son deuxième filet de la rencontre et son 21e de la saison à la 12e minute de jeu lors d’une descente à deux contre un.
Les Rapides ont dominé 46-42 en ce qui a trait aux tirs au but. Frédéric Plourde s’est mérité une 10e victoire devant le filet cette saison. Xavier Farrah a débuté le match devant le filet des Tigres, mais il a été remplacé par Jacob Carrier après le 5e but des Rapides.
Après avoir connu la victoire à deux reprises la fin de semaine dernière, les Rapides tenteront de poursuvire sur leur lancée dès jeudi soir alors qu’ils seront les visiteurs des Timberwolves de Miramichi (19h00). Il s’agira d’une belle opportunité pour la troupe de Greg Leland de réduire l’écart à 2 points avec les Timberwolves au classement.

RAPIDS EARN A SECOND CONSECUTIVE VICTORY
GRAND FALLS – The Rapids played another intense and well-rounded game on Sunday afternoon, led by a 7-goal outburst as they ousted the Campbellton Tigers by a score of 7-2 at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
The Rapids complete their weekend homestand with two crucial victories, which brings them back in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Eastlink North division standings as they now trail the Miramichi Timberwolves by only 4 points.
As it was the case on Friday night for the Rapids, a newcomer earned the game’s first star honors on Sunday. Ethan Johnson, who has joined the top line since his arrival in Grand Falls, had a strong game offensively with a performance of 1 goal and 3 assists. Linemate Yannic Bastarache was also instrumental in the victory, scoring two goals while adding two assists. Bastarache completes the weekend with 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points.
It was a complete team effort, despite the occasional penalties taken in the offensive zone. But contrary to what their opponents could achieve, the Rapids were the most opportunistic team and took an early lead that propelled them to their 16th victory of the season as their record now stands at .500.
The power play, which went silent during the team’s losing streak, has now produced 5 goals in two games, including 3 tallies on Sunday against the Tigers.
Dominic LeBlanc, with his 14th of the season, opened the scoring for Grand Falls on the power play at 1:52. Cole McWilliam made it 2-0 on a rebound that was left in front of the net, a goal which came at 7:52.
The Tigers outshot the Rapids 16-15 in the opening period as Frédéric Plourde was again outstanding between the pipes for Grand Falls.
The Rapids scored four unanswered goals in the middle frame, taking a 5-0 lead. Ethan Johnson scored early (59 seconds) while Yannic Bastarache added his 20th goal of the season at 2:29 on a backhand shot. It was also a 9th power play goal for Bastarache this season.
Ben Diamond, with his 16th of the season also with the man advantage, made it 5-0 at 15:31 before the Tigers answered with their first goal of the contest at 16:19 on a tip in front of the net (Bates Ling).
Josh Russell, who scored three goals on Friday night against Miramichi, added his 5th of the season 28 seconds into the third period to bring the Rapids’ lead to 6-1.
Justin David scored the Tigers second goal at 8:36. Yannic Bastarache added his second for Grand Falls and his 21st of the season at the 12-minute mark on a two-on-one break.
The Rapids led 46-42 in shots on goal. Frédéric Plourde earned his 10th victory between the pipes. Xavier Farrah started the game in net for Campbellton and was replaced after the Rapids’ fifth goal by Jacob Carrier.
After earning two important victories, the Rapids will try to pursue their winning ways starting on Thursday night in Miramichi (7 pm). It will be a great opportunity for Greg Leland’s squad to cut the margin to 2 points between those two teams in the standings.
