LES RAPIDES REMPORTENT UNE 7e VICTOIRE EN 8 PARTIES
YARMOUTH (N.-E.) – Le but de Ben Diamond, marqué en avantage numérique avec seulement 45 secondes à écouler en temps réglementaire, a permis aux Rapides de Grand-Sault de disposer des Mariners de Yarmouth au compte de 4-3 vendredi soir.
Il s’agit d’une 7e victoire en 8 matchs pour Grand-Sault qui totalise maintenant 18 points cette saison avec un dossier de 9 gains et 7 revers. Les Rapides se situent au troisième rang de la division Eastlink Nord, 1 point derrière les Tigres de Campbellton.
Bien positionné devant le filet, Diamond a réussi à faire dévier la rondelle derrière le gardien des Mariners, Joey Lovullo. Evan Bellamy est celui qui a effectué le tir provenant de la pointe. Jack Dickie a lui aussi amassé une mention d’assistance sur le but vainqueur.
En avance 3-2 après deux périodes de jeu, les Rapides ont vu leurs adversaires égaliser le pointage lors d’une supériorité numérique à 11 :30 en troisième.
Les Mariners ont dominé 40-24 au chapitre des tirs au but. Joshua Fleming s’est mérité une 5e victoire devant le filet alors qu’il a encore une fois obtenu une solide performance.
C’est la formation de Yarmouth qui a ouvert la marque en première période. Il n’y avait d’ailleurs que 1 :15 d’écoulés au cadran lorsque Tamy Ettaqi a donné les devants aux locaux après avoir glisser la rondelle sous les jambières du gardien alors qu’il croisait le devant du filet.
Les Rapides ont toutefois nivelé le pointage lors d’un jeu de puissance à 6 :08. Yannic Bastarache a laissé partir un tir puissant, ne laissant aucune chance au gardien qui avait la vue partiellement voilée. Il s’agissait d’un 8e but en avantage numérique pour Bastarache et un 13e filet au cumulatif cette saison.
Yarmouth a dirigé 9 tirs en direction du filet comparativement à 6 du côté de Grand-Sault.
Les Rapides ont pris une avance de 2-1 à la cinquième minute de jeu de la période médiane avec le 5e filet de la campagne de Bryce Thomson. Ce dernier, laissé sans surveillance devant le filet, a pris possession d’un retour de lancer pour battre le gardien.
Puis à 12 :25, Adam Redding marquait lui aussi sur un retour de lancer, son 3e de la campagne, permettant aux Rapides de prendre les devants par deux buts.
Cependant, avant la fin de l’engagement, les Mariners ont réduit l’écart lors d’une supériorité numérique après avoir remporté une mise en jeu en territoire des Rapides. Michael Marquez a été crédité du but alors que la deuxième période se terminait 3-2 en faveur des Rapides qui ont pourtant été dominés 19-8 au chapitre des tirs au but.
Les Mariners ont égalisé le pointage avec un autre but en avantage numérique à 11 :30 en troisième période, soit le 3e de la saison de Franco Canevari. Le but est survenu lors d’une supériorité numérique de 4 minutes; les Rapides étaient parvenus à écouler les 3 premières minutes de cette pénalité.
Le but vainqueur de Ben Diamond est survenu à 19 :15, son 9e de la campagne et son premier filet gagnant cette saison.
Les Rapides complètent ainsi leur voyage de deux semaines en Nouvelle-Écosse avec un dossier fort respectable de 3 victoires et 1 revers. Ils seront de retour devant leurs partisans mercredi soir alors qu’ils accueilleront les Timberwolves de Miramichi à compter de 19h30 au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal.

RAPIDS WIN FOR A 7th TIME IN THEIR LAST 8 GAMES
YARMOUTH (NS) – Ben Diamond’s power play goal, scored with only 45 seconds remaining in regulation time, propelled the Grand Falls Rapids to a 4-3 victory Friday night against the Yarmouth Mariners.
It was the Rapids’ 7th win in their last 8 games as they now total 18 points on the season with a record of 9 wins and 7 losses, which ranks them in third position in the Eastlink North division standings.
Well positioned in front of the net, Diamond tipped a shot from the point coming from the stick of Evan Bellamy as Grand Falls was playing with the man advantage. Jack Dickie also got an assist on the winning tally.
Leading 3-2 after two periods of play, the Rapids saw their opponents tie the score at 11:30 of the third with a power play goal.
The Rapids were outshot 40 to 24 by the Mariners. Joshua Fleming earned his 5th win of the season between the pipes as he had another strong game.
Yarmouth opened the scoring early in the first period, which came at 1:35 after the first puck drop. Tamy Ettaqi slid the puck under the pads of Fleming as he came across the crease with speed.
However, the Rapids tied the score on a power play at 6:08. Yannic Bastarache sent a shot from the point with traffic in from of Mariners’ goalie Joey Lovullo. It was an 8th power play goal for Bastarache and a 13th in total this season.
Shots on goal in the first period were 9-6 in favour of Yarmouth.
The Rapids took a 2-1 lead at the 5-minute mark of the middle frame on Bryce Thomson’s 5th of the season. Thomson pounced on a rebound, sending the puck between the pads of Lovullo who was playing in his first game of the season for the Mariners.
Grand Falls scored another goal on a rebound in front of the net at 12:25. This time, it was Adam Redding who didn’t miss the opportunity to score his 3rd of the season as he was left alone in the slot.
Before the end of the period however, the Mariners cut the visitors’ lead to one goal following a faceoff win in Rapids’ territory while playing with the man advantage. Michael Marquez was credited with the goal as the second period ended in a 3-2 lead in favour of the Rapids who were heavily outshot however, 19 to 8.
The Mariners tied the score with another power play goal at 11:30 of the third period on Franco Canevari’s 3rd of the season. It came on a 4-minute man advantage as the Rapids had killed almost 3 minutes off the penalty.
Ben Diamond’s winning goal came at 19:15, his 9th of the season and his first game winning tally.
The Rapids complete their two-week Nova Scotia road trip with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss. They will return to home ice on Wednesday night as they host the Miramichi Timberwolves (7:30pm) at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
