LES RAPIDES ONT RAISON DU BLIZZARD AU COMPTE DE 7-1
GRAND-SAULT – Il va sans dire que les Rapides n’avaient aucunement l’intention de s’incliner pour une troisième reprise à domicile cette saison devant leurs rivaux du Nord-Ouest. Il n’était pas question non plus que l’offensive tombe sur les épaules de seulement un joueur ou deux.
En effet, il s’agissait d’un travail collectif hors pair alors que les Rapides ont eu le meilleur par la marque de 7-1 face au Blizzard lors d’une rencontre disputée dimanche après-midi au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal.
Inspirés par leur brillante victoire de 2-1 obtenue vendredi soir contre Summerside, les Rapides sont sortis forts dès les premières vingt minutes de jeu, prenant les devants par deux buts. Ces derniers ont enregistré quatre buts sans réplique en deuxième période, dont trois inscrit lors des 10 premières minutes de jeu de l’engagement.
En avance 6-0 après deux périodes, la troupe de Greg Leland a poursuivi son travail acharné dans les deux sens de la patinoire, n’allouant que 9 tirs au filet à leurs adversaires lors du troisième vingt.
Dominic Leblanc a dirigé l’offensive avec une performance de deux buts, ses 6e et 7e de la campagne, lui permettant ainsi de rejoindre Yannic Bastarache au chapitre des meilleurs franc-tireurs de l’équipe.
Cinq autres joueurs ont réussi à s’inscrire au pointage, ce qui démontre la belle contribution offerte par l’équipe sur le plan offensif.
Le gardien Joshua Fleming a encore une fois offert une solide performance devant le filet, bloquant 30 lancers. Pour un deuxième match de suite, Fleming a été nommé la première étoile de la partie.
Les nombreux partisans qui étaient au rendez-vous ont été témoins d’un effort collectif de grande qualité offert par les Rapides alors que ces derniers ont dominé le Blizzard sur pratiquement toutes les facettes du jeu, sauf pour le nombre de tirs au but.
La statistique toutefois qui ressort davantage des matchs du dernier week-end est celle des buts alloués : seulement 2 ont été accordés face à deux des meilleures offensives du circuit.
Adam Redding a ouvert le pointage en première période lorsque son tir a dévié sur le bâton d’un défenseur, permettant à la rondelle de trouver la partie supérieure du filet. Puis vers la toute fin de l’engagement, Dominic Leblanc a inscrit son premier filet de la rencontre sur une belle passe de Marc-Antoine Belzile, procurant aux locaux une avance de 2-0.
La deuxième période a été complètement dominée par les Rapides qui ont enregistré quatre buts sans réplique sur un total de 12 lancers.
Mathis Huot a marqué le troisième but de Grand-Sault à 6 :05 à l’aide d’un tir du revers, suivi à 7 :05 par le but de Thomas DeGagné lors d’une descente en surnombre.
Ben Diamond a ajouté le 5e but des siens à 9 :00 lorsqu’il est parvenu à faire dévier un tir devant le filet. Il s’agissait d’ailleurs d’un but marqué lors d’un avantage numérique. Puis à 10 :27, Dominic Leblanc a déjoué le gardien Matthew Parker lors d’une échappée pour son deuxième filet de la rencontre. Mentionnons que Samuel Leblanc est celui qui a effectué le départ devant le filet du Blizzard avant de céder sa place à Parker en deuxième.
Grand-Sault a pris les devants 7-0 à la 6e minute de jeu en troisième période sur le premier but de la saison de Cole MacWilliam, marqué lors d’une échappée en situation d’infériorité numérique.
Le Blizzard a finalement inscrit un premier but à 7 :16, gracieuseté de Mitchell McLeod en supériorité numérique.
La fiche des Rapides est présentement de 4 victoires et 6 revers pour 8 points. Ils se retrouvent à 2 points de Fredericton et Campbellton pour l’obtention du 5e rang de la division Eastlink Nord.

*Yannic Bastarache a lui aussi connu un bon match offensivement avec une récolte de 3 mentions d’aide. Quatre joueurs du côté des Rapides ont terminé le match avec 2 points à leur fiche : Dominic Leblanc (2b), Adam Redding (1b 1p), Thomas DeGagné (1b 1p) et Ian Dickie (2p).
*Il s’agissait d’une troisième victoire consécutive pour les Rapides sur leur propre patinoire. Leur prochain match aura lieu justement à domicile alors qu’ils accueilleront les Red Wings de Fredericton vendredi soir.

RAPIDS DOMINATE THE BLIZZARD IN A 7-1 VICTORY ON HOME ICE
GRAND FALLS – The Rapids had no intention of dropping a third game in a row this season on home ice to the Edmundston Blizzard, nor did they wanted to depend solely on their best goal scorers to get the job done offensively.
It was a total team effort as Grand Falls outplayed their Northwestern rivals in a convincing 7-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
Inspired by their 2-1 win against Summerside on Friday night, Greg Leland’s squad came out strong out of the gate, taking a 2-0 lead after the first period of play. The Rapids had a 4-goal outburst in the middle frame, including three in a span of less than 3 minutes before the 10-minute mark of the period.
With a 6-0 lead after forty minutes of play, the Rapids continued to apply pressure while playing well defensively, allowing only 9 shots on goal to their opponents in the third period.
Dominic Leblanc scored twice for Grand Falls, his 6th and 7th goals of the season, putting him in a tie with linemate Yannic Bastarache for the team lead.
There was major contribution on the scoresheet as five different players also found the back of the net.
For a second consecutive start, goaltender Joshua Fleming had a strong game between the pipes, blocking a total of 30 shots as he was named once again the first star of the contest.
The many fans who were in attendance witnessed a strong collective performance by the Rapids as they outplayed the Blizzard in every department except the shots on goal. The statistic that stands out the most however over the weekend is the 2 goals allowed against two of the top scoring teams in the league.
Adam Redding opened the scoring in the opening frame when his shot deflected off the stick of a Blizzard defender, finding its way in the top corner of the net. Then, near the end of the period, Dominic Leblanc scored his first goal of the game on a pass from Marc-Antoine Belzile to give Grand Falls a 2-0 lead.
The second period was dominated by the Rapids as they scored four unanswered goals on 12 shots.
Mathis Huot scored on a backhand shot at 6:05, followed at 7:02 by Thomas DeGagné’s tally which came on an odd-man rush.
Ben Diamond added the fifth goal at 9:00 on a deflection as the Rapids were playing with the man advantage. Then at 10:27, Dominic Leblanc added his second of the game on a breakaway, beating goaltender Matthew Parker who came in relief of Samuel Leblanc who started the game between the pipes for Edmundston.
Grand Falls had a 7-0 lead at the 6-minute mark of the third period on Cole MacWilliam’s first of the season, a shorthanded tally scored on a breakaway.
The Blizzard finally got on the board at 7:16 with Mitchell McLeod’s power play goal.
The Rapids’ record now stands at 4 wins and 6 losses as they find themselves only 2 points back of both Campbellton and Fredericton for 5th spot in the Eastlink North division standings.
