LES RAPIDES METTENT UN TERME À LEUR SÉQUENCE VICTORIEUSE
NEW GLASGOW, N.E. – Il s’agissait d’un match à oublier jeudi soir pour les Rapides, alors qu’ils se sont inclinés par la marque de 8-1 en Nouvelle-Écosse face aux Weeks Crushers de Pictou County.
Le point tournant du match a été sans contredit les six buts enregistrés par les Weeks Crushers en deuxième période, donc deux en supériorité numérique et un autre inscrit lors d’un désavantage numérique.
Bryson Boudreau a marqué trois fois pour les vainqueurs alors que Carter Murchison obtenait un doublé. Ben Diamond a été le seul joueur à marquer du côté des Rapides.
C’était une rare mauvaise sortie devant le filet pour le gardien Joshua Fleming qui a accordé 7 buts en deux périodes de travail. Fleming avait reçu de bonnes nouvelles en début de journée, étant choisi le gardien et la recrue par excellence pour le mois d’octobre dans le circuit avec une moyenne de buts alloués impressionnante de 1,71. Il a été grandement responsable des succès de l’équipe au cours des dernières semaines et il saura sûrement rebondir de cette contre-performance.
Ben Diamond a ouvert le pointage en première période avec un but inscrit en infériorité numérique à 7 :36.
Bryson Boudreau est venu créer l’égalité pour les locaux à 17 :01.
Le premier vingt a donné lieu à du jeu très serré alors que seulement 12 tirs ont été enregistrés, soit 6 de chaque côté.
Alors qu’ils se retrouvaient en supériorité numérique pour débuter la deuxième période, les Rapides ont tout fait sauf marquer. Ils ont été confrontés à un gardien en pleine possession de ses moyens alors que Jeremy Robar bloquait tout devant la cage des Weeks Crushers.
Ces derniers sont parvenus à prendre les devants à la 3e minute de jeu sur une descente à deux contre un. Riley Seymour est celui qui a marqué à l’aide d’un tir vif des poignets.
Les Crushers ont ensuite ajouté deux buts dans l’intervalle de seulement 30 secondes. Carter Murchison a porté le compte 3-1 à 8 :03 alors que Logan O’Neil, sur une échappée, a marqué à 8 :33. Les Rapides se retrouvaient donc soudainement avec un déficit de trois buts.
La formation de Pictou County a compté à trois autres reprises avant la fin de l’engagement. Ben Mercer (en désavantage numérique), Carter Murchison et Bryson Boudreau (en avantage numérique) ont permis aux Crushers de prendre une avance de 7-1 après quarante minutes de jeu.
Frédéric Plourde est venu remplacer le partant Joshua Fleming pour le début du troisième vingt. Plourde n’a alloué qu’un seul but, soit le 3e du match de Bryson Boudreau.
Les Weeks Crushers, qui remportaient une 6e victoire cette saison, ont dominé 32-30 au chapitre des tirs au but.
Pour les Rapides, ce revers porte leur fiche à 6 victoires et 7 défaites, soit 1 match sous la barre de .500. Avec la victoire des Red Wings de Fredericton jeudi soir contre South Shore, les Rapides se retrouvent maintenant au 6e rang de la division Eastlink Nord avec 1 point de recul sur Miramichi et Edmundston.
Les Rapides seront de retour en action vendredi soir alors qu’ils seront les visiteurs des Ramblers d’Amherst à compter de 19h00.

THE RAPIDS’ WINNING STREAK COMES TO AN END
NEW GLASGOW, Nova Scotia – It was most certainly a game to forget for the Rapids on Thursday night in Nova Scotia as their four-game unbeaten streak came to an end. Grand Falls dropped an 8-1 decision to the Pictou County Weeks Crushers, leaving them one game below the .500 mark at 6 wins and 7 losses.
The turning point of the game was the 6-goal outburst by Pictou County in the second period, including two power play goals and one shorthanded tally.
Bryson Boudreau scored three times for the Crushers while Carter Murchison added a pair. Ben Diamond, with his 7th of the season, was the only Rapids’ player to score.
It was a rare tough outing for goaltender Joshua Fleming who allowed 7 goals in two periods. Earlier in the day, he was rewarded for his great performance, being named the MHL rookie and goaltender of the month of the October with an ourstanding goals against average of 1.71 while winning his four starts between the pipes. Fleming has been a major factor in the Rapids’ four game winning streak, and he will assuredly rebound from this loss.
Ben Diamond opened the scoring in the first period with an unassisted shorthanded goal scored at 7:36.
Bryson Boudreau tied the game for Pictou County at 17:01 in a tight defensive battle that saw only 12 shots on net, 6 on each side.
As they were playing with the man advantage, the Rapids came out strong into the second period, but they were confronted to some great goaltending by Jeremy Robar who kept the game tied. The Weeks Crushers took advantage of a two-on-one break to take the lead at the 3-minute mark as Riley Seymour sent a quick shot into the back of the net.
The Crushers scored two other goals in a span of only 30 seconds. Carter Murchison made it 3-1 at 8:03 while Logan O’Neil scored on a breakaway at 8:33 to stun the Rapids who suddenly fell behind by three goals.
Pictou County added three more goals before the end of the frame from Ben Mercer (shorthanded), Carter Murchison and Bryson Boudreau (power play).
After two periods of play, the Weeks Crushers held a 7-1 lead.
Frédéric Plourde replaced Joshua Fleming for the start of the third period. Plourde allowed one goal, which was Bryson Boudreau’s third of the night and his 8th of the season.
The final tally in shots on goal was 32 to 30 in favour of the Weeks Crushers who won for the 6th time this season.
For the Rapids, the loss leaves them with 6 wins and 7 losses for the season for 12 points. With the Fredericton Red Wings’ victory on Thursday night against South Shore, the Rapids have dropped to 6th position in the Eastlink North division standings, 1 point back of both Miramichi and Edmundston.
The Rapids return to action on Friday night as they travel to Amherst to meet the Ramblers for a 7pm contest.
