LES RAPIDES L’EMPORTENT 6-5 FACE AUX TIMBERWOLVES
GRAND-SAULT – Le deuxième but du match de Drew Johnston, marqué avec seulement 55 secondes à écouler en temps réglementaire, a permis aux Rapides de Grand-Sault de disposer des Timberwolves de Miramichi par la marque de 6-5 lors d’une rencontre disputée dimanche après-midi au Centre E.&P. Sénéchal.
Avec cette victoire, les Rapides s’emparent du 5e rang de la division Eastlink Nord avec 1 point de priorité sur les Timberwolves. Ces deux mêmes équipes s’affronteront à nouveau mercredi soir, cette fois du côté de Miramichi.
Yannic Bastarache, avec son deuxième but de la partie, avait créé l’égalité pour Grand-Sault tôt en troisième période. Les Rapides accusaient un déficit de 2-0 lors du premier engagement et 4-2 en deuxième. Miramichi avait pris les devants 5-4 après quarante minutes de jeu, mais ils ont vu leurs adversaires s’inscrire au pointage à deux reprises en troisième pour ainsi signer la victoire.
Il s’agissait d’un bel effort d’équipe du côté des Rapides, même si les deux formations n’étaient pas à la hauteur sur le plan défensif tôt dans la rencontre. Gio DiMattia, qui est venu en relève après le 4e but des visiteurs, a effectué deux arrêts spectaculaires avec la mitaine tôt en troisième période lors d’une supériorité numérique aux Timberwolves.
Yannic Bastarache a obtenu le but égalisateur peu de temps après et les Rapides ont fermé la porte à leurs opposants par la suite.
Ce sont cinq buts qui ont été enregistrés en première période alors que l’accent a été placé davantage sur le jeu offensif. Les Rapides ont obtenu beaucoup de succès à sortir la rondelle de leur zone et à contrôler le jeu en territoire adverse, mais ce sont les Timberwolves qui ont réussi à profiter de leurs chances de marquer.
Il n’y avait que 30 secondes d’écoulées dans la partie lorsque les visiteurs ont inscrit un premier but au tableau. Jeremie Jacob est celui qui a donné les devants aux siens, trompant la vigilance du gardien Nicholas Heinzle qui en était à un premier départ devant le filet des Rapides. Miramichi a ajouté un deuxième but à 6 :05 grâce au tir sur réception de Braden MacPhee.
Les Rapides n’ont cependant rien modifié de leur plan de match et ils ont été récompensés avec deux buts à leur tour. Comme il l’avait fait vendredi soir, Yannic Bastarache a été en mesure de contourner un défenseur pour se retrouver seul devant le gardien. Il n’a pas raté sa chance encore une fois, marquant à l’aide d’un tir du revers à 9 :03. Il s’agissait d’un 5e but pour Bastarache cette saison.
Puis seulement 56 secondes plus tard, Max Chisholm a pris un retour de lancer devant le filet, égalisant le pointage 3-3.
Les Timberwolves ont cependant repris les devants à 16 :38 lors d’une supériorité numérique avec le but de William Robinson. Miramichi menait donc 3-2 après vingt minutes de jeu.
Miramichi a doublé son avance avec seulement 19 secondes d’écoulées en deuxième période. Jeremie Jacob a inscrit son deuxième but du match.
Les Rapides sont revenus de l’arrière encore une fois, assurant la réplique avec deux buts pour ainsi créer l’égalité à nouveau. Drew Johnston a réduit l’écart à 4-3 en enfilant son premier filet de la campagne à 2 :40 à l’aide d’un tir précis. Puis à 3 :48, Dominic Leblanc nivelait le pointage suite à une incursion rapide en territoire adverse. Il s’agissait d’un 9e but pour Leblanc cette saison.
Les Timberwolves ont repris les devants à 12 :25 sur le 15e filet de la campagne de Jacob Santerre. Son tir a battu le gardien au-dessus de la mitaine, permettant à Miramichi de retraiter au vestiaire après quarante minutes de jeu avec une avance de 5-4.
Yannic Bastarache, avec son deuxième de la partie, a égalisé le pointage à 3 :37 en troisième période à l’aide d’une déviation devant le filet. Puis lors d’une brillante séquence en territoire adverse, le premier trio des Rapides en a fait voir de toutes les couleurs à leurs opposants, enregistrant le but victorieux à 19 :05. Drew Johnston est celui qui a donné la victoire aux siens après avoir pris un retour de lancer devant le filet des Timberwolves.
À noter que Miramichi a dominé au chapitre des tirs au but, 37-33.
Les Rapides, qui complètent un séjour de quatre matchs à domicile avec 3 victoires, disputeront deux parties sur la route cette semaine. Mercredi soir, ils rendront visite aux Timberwolves de Miramichi alors que le lendemain, les Rapides croiseront le fer avec le Blizzard d’Edmundston au Centre Jean-Daigle.

RAPIDS SCORE LATE IN A 6-5 VICTORY OVER MIRAMICHI
GRAND FALLS – Drew Johnston scored his second goal of the game with only 55 seconds remaining in regulation time as the Grand Falls Rapids defeated the Miramichi Timberwolves by a score of 6-5 on Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, the Rapids move over to 5th spot in the Eastlink North division standings, 1 point ahead of the Timberwolves. Both teams meet again on Wednesday night in Miramichi.
Yannic Bastarache tied the score at 5-5 for Grand Falls early in the third period with his second of the contest. The Rapids fell behind 2-0 in the first period and 4-2 early in the middle frame. Miramichi jumped to a 5-4 lead after forty minutes of play, but saw their opponents score twice in the final twenty minutes to skate away with the win.
It was a complete team effort once again, even though both teams played some sloppy defense early on. Gio DiMattia, who entered the game between the pipes in the second period, made a couple of spectacular glove saves early in the third when the Timberwolves were on the power play. Bastarache scored the tying goal at the third minute of play and the Rapids shut the door to their opponents for the remainder of the contest.
It was a wide open first period as five goals were scored in total. The Rapids had success getting he puck out of their zone and did have some great chances around the opposing net, but it was Miramichi who took advantage of their opportunities at the other end. It took only 30 seconds for the Timberwolves to get on the board when Jeremie Jacob scored on a one-timer against netminder Nicholas Heinzle who was making his first start in goal for the Rapids.
Miramichi added a second goal at 6:05 on Braeden MacPhee’s one-timer over the glove of Heinzle.
The Rapids didn’t get away from their game plan and they were rewarded with two goals of their own. Just like he did on Friday night, Yannic Bastarache was able to get by a defender, beating goalie Kevyn Brassard with a backhand shot. The goal, scored at 9:03, was the 5th for Bastarache this season.
Grand Falls tied the score 56 seconds later on Max Chisholm’s first of the season after he put a rebound into an open net.
However, the Timberwolves got on the board again at 16:38 on a power play. William Robinson scored the go-ahead goal from the slot, giving the visitors a 3-2 lead after twenty minutes of play.
Miramichi doubled its lead with only 19 seconds played in the middle frame. Jeremie Jacob scored his second of the game, giving his team a 4-2 lead. At that point, netminder Gio DiMattia came into the game for Grand Falls.
The Rapids came back once again, scoring twice. Drew Johnston scored his first of the year on a perfect shot in the top corner of the net at 2:40 and at 3:48, Dominic Leblanc tied the score after a great rush into Timberwolves’ territory. It was a 9th goal this season for Leblanc.
Miramichi regained the lead once again however on Jacob Santerre’s 15th goal of the season at 12:25.
Shots on goal were even in the second period, 11-11.
Yannic Bastarache, with his second of the game, tied the score for Grand Falls at 3:37 of the final frame on a tip in front of the net. Then on a great sequence in Miramichi territory, the top line went to work and produced the winning goal at 19:05. Drew Johnston scored the game winner after taking a rebound in front of the net.
It was Miramichi who dominated the game in shots on goal, 37-33.
The Rapids, who complete their four game homestand with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss, will be on the road for two games this week as they play two divisional rivals. On Wednesday they travel to Miramichi while on Thursday night, they will clash with their Northwestern rivals, the Edmundston Blizzard.
