LES RAPIDES L’EMPORTENT 4-1 À TRURO
TRURO (N.-E.) – Mercredi soir en Nouvelle-Écosse, une poussée de 4 buts sans réplique a permis aux Rapides de l’emporter au compte de 4-1 face aux Bearcats de Truro, signant ainsi une 14e victoire cette saison.
Tirant de l’arrière 1-0 en fin de deuxième période, les Rapides ont marqué deux fois en moins de 3 minutes d’intervalle pour prendre les devants. Joakim Bergeron et Drew Johnston procuraient aux Rapides une avance de 2-1 après quarante minutes de jeu.
Ces derniers ont ajouté deux autres filets en troisième période, soit ceux de Adam Fowlow et Yannic Bastarache, ce dernier, dans un filet désert.
Luke Munroe a été le seul joueur des Bearcats à tromper la vigilance du gardien Gio DiMattia qui a repoussé 29 tirs. Son vis-à-vis Frédéric Plourde de St-Léonard a lui aussi été solide, bloquant 26 lancers.
Les deux équipes ont obtenu des chances égales de marquer lors des vingt premières minutes de jeu, mais aucune d’entre elles n’est parvenue à s’inscrire au pointage.
Les Bearcats ont dirigé 11 tirs au filet contre 7 du côté de Grand-Sault alors que les gardiens de but ont été les figures dominantes pour leurs formations respectives en première période.
Les deux équipes ont été en mesure de faire bouger les cordages à trois reprises en deuxième période, même si les gardiens ont encore une fois excellé.
Les Bearcats ont été les premiers à prendre les devants, soit sur un jeu de puissance à 1 :13. Luke Munroe, laissé seul dans l’embouchure du filet, a marqué à l’aide d’un tir sur réception pour son 19e filet de la campagne.
Gio DiMattia a repoussé tous les tirs à lui faire face par la suite, dont un arrêt sensationnel aux dépens du dangereux Holden Kodak avec moins de 6 minutes à écouler dans l’engagement.
Le momentum s’est transporté du côté des Rapides suite à cet arrêt clé alors que ces derniers ont marqué deux buts en fin de période pour prendre les devants. Joakim Bergeron, avec son 20e de la saison, a battu le gardien à l’aide d’un tir dans la partie supérieure du filet à 17 :45. Puis avec seulement 33 secondes à écouler en période, Drew Johnston s’est amené en échappée alors que son équipe évoluait à court d’un homme. Après avoir effectué une belle feinte devant Frédéric Plourde, Johnston a trouvé le fond du filet pour son 6e but de la campagne.
Adam Fowlow s’est mérité une mention d’aide sur le 5e but des Rapides enregistré en désavantage numérique cette saison.
Après deux périodes de jeu, Truro était en avance 20-18 au chapitre des tirs au but.
Les Rapides ont disputé une excellente troisième période sur le plan défensif, n’allouant que 10 lancers à leurs opposants. Adan Fowlow a inscrit le but d’assurance à 18 :11, son 11e de la saison. À sa sortie du banc de son équipe, Fowlow a dirigé un tir qui a fait bouger les cordages, procurant aux visiteurs une avance de 3-1.
Yannic Bastarache, avec son 18e, a marqué le 4e filet de Grand-Sault dans une cage déserte avec seulement 35 secondes à écouler au match.
Les deux équipes ont lancé à 30 reprises en direction du filet adverse dans la rencontre.
Les Rapides termineront leur séjour en Nouvelle-Écosse jeudi soir en rendant visite aux Weeks Crushers de Pictou County à compter de 19h00.

RAPIDS EARN A 4-1 VICTORY IN TRURO
TRURO (NS) – Wednesday night in Nova Scotia, the Rapids scored four unanswered goals as they cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Truro Bearcats, winning for a 14th time this season.
Trailing 1-0 at the end of the second period, the Rapids scored twice in a span of less than 3 minutes to take the lead. Joakim Bergeron and Drew Johnston gave Grand Falls a 2-1 advantage through forty minutes of play.
The Rapids added two more goals in the third, scored by Adam Fowlow and an empty netter by Yannic Bastarache.
Luke Munroe was the only player for Truro to beat netminder Gio DiMattia who made 29 saves. St.Leonard native Frédéric Plourde was between the pipes for the Bearcats, blocking 26 shots and playing another strong game, as he did last week when the Bearcats came to Grand Falls.
Both teams had equal opportunities to get on the board in the opening period, but the game remained scoreless through twenty minutes of play.
The Bearcats led 11-7 in shots on goal as both netminders were the key figures for their respective teams in the first period.
Goaltenders were still very efficient in the second period, but both teams got three times on the board.
The Bearcats took the lead at 1:13 on a power play goal by Luke Munroe. Left alone near the crease, Munroe scored on a one-timer for his 19th of the season.
Afterwards, Gio DiMattia stopped everything else that came towards him, including a sensational save on Holden Kodak with less than 6 minutes remaining in the middle frame.
The momentum shifted quickly after that save as the Rapids responded late in the period with two goals. Joakim Bergeron tallied his 20th of the campaign at 17:45 after beating Plourde on a perfect shot over the shoulder. Then with only 33 seconds remaining in the frame, Drew Johnston came in on a breakaway while his team was playing shorthanded, scoring his 6th of the season. Adam Fowlow got the assist on Grand Falls’ 5th shorth handed goal of the season.
After two periods of play, Truro led 20 to 18 in shots on goal.
The Rapids played a great third period on defense, allowing only 10 shots on goal to their opponents. Adam Fowlow scored the insurance goal at 18:11, his 11th of the season. As he came off the bench, Fowlow came into the slot and fired the puck into the back of the net, giving the visitors a 3-1 lead.
Yannic Bastarache scored in an empty net with 35 seconds remaining, his 18th tally of the season.
Each team shot 30 times on goal in the game.
The Rapids will finish their two-day road trip to Nova Scotia on Thursday night as they visit the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. Puck drop is at 7pm.
