WESTERN CAPITALS DEFEAT RAPIDS

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Western Capitals exploded with 10 goals on Saturday night, handing the Grand Falls Rapids their fourth loss in a row in a 10-2 victory at Credit Union Arena.

Elliott Mullen led the way with four goals while Alexandre Guy had a pair for Summerside who has lost only once on home ice thus far this season.

The game got out of hand early as the Western Capitals scored three times in the opening frame before the Rapids could register their first shot on net. Elliott Mullen scored his first two goals of the night at 3:35 and 7:25. Andrew Thompson brought the score to 3-0 on a power play tally at 9:21.

After Alexandre Guy added Summerside’s fourth goal at the 2-minute mark of the second period, Isaac Allard scored Grand Falls’ first goal on a power play with a wrister to the top corner of the net.

The Western Capitals added two more goals from Alexandre Guy and Justin Ouellette (power play) to make it 6-1 before Nathan Plamondon-Michaud scored his 14th goal of the season for the Rapids at 14:55 of the period. Matthew MacLean added another goal for Summerside who led 7-2 after forty minutes of play.

The Western Capitals scored three more times in the third period on goals from Elliott Mullen (his 3rd and 4th of the game) and Alex Hendry.

The final tally in shots on goal was 53 to 41 in favor of Summerside.

Adam Lecours (GFR) and Kolton Bourret (SWC) were the netminders for their respective teams.
