- CAMPBELLTON – The Campbellton Tigers scored four times in the third period, including three consecutive goals in the last 8 minutes of play of regulation, skating away with a 7-4 victory over the Rapids on Sunday afternoon.
The Rapids complete the halfway mark of their season with a record of 7 wins, 15 losses and 4 shootout defeats for a total of 18 points.
It was a close game from the very start as the score became tied on three occasions before the Tigers would explode with a flurry of goals in the third period.
Ty Hunter scored his first two goals of the season for Grand Falls. Owen Underhill also found the back of the net on two occasions for Campbellton who won for the 14th time this season.
Underhill got his team on the board early in the first period before Ty Hunter would tie the score for the visitors on a rebound in front of the net at 18:17.
The Rapids took a 3-1 lead in the middle frame on goals from Nicholas Brennan following a turnover by the Tigers’ defense, and from Raphael Denis who left his post at the blue line to beat netminder Adam Rouleau with a backhand shot. However, the Tigers replied with two goals of their own to tie the score at 3-3. Tyler Pazin and Ludovik Tardif were the goal scorers for Campbellton.
The Tigers took the lead at 6:42 of the third period when Sam Hope took control of his own rebound in front of the net, beating Rapids’goalkeeper Adam Lecours.
Ty Hunter tied the game 4-4 at 11:31 on a tip in front of the net.
Then the Tigers stormed back with three goals, including the game winner from Simon Duguay at 12:02 on a scramble in front of the net. Owen Underhill added his second of the contest at 17:08, followed by an empty net goal from Jean-Alexandre Tétreault at 18:17.
Underhill would finish the game with 2 goals and 1 assist while teammate Thomas Larouche also picked up 3 points with 3 assists.
For the Rapids, Ty Hunter led the way with 2 goals while Jérémy D’Astous had 2 assists.
Grand Falls held a slight lead in shots on goal,29 to 28.
Both teams will match up again on Wednesday night, but this time at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre in Grand Falls. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 pm.
