THE RAPIDS SELECT 10 PLAYERS IN THE 2022 MHL DRAFT
The Maritime Junior Hockey League Entry Draft was held Friday night as a total of 120 players were selected among the twelve teams.
The Rapids made a total of ten picks, including three in the opening round, all 2006 born players.
Grand Falls selected seven forwards in the draft while adding two defenseman and one goaltender.
With the third overall selection in the draft, the Rapids chose St.John NB native REID CALDER, a power forward listed at 180 lbs who played last season for the St.John Vitos in Midget AAA.
With the 7th pick overall, the Rapids selected JONAH LEARD, a skilled forward who suited up last season for the Moncton Flyers in Midget AAA.
Grand Falls made their final pick of the first round (10th overall) by adding MARCO LEBLANC, a defenseman considered as an intense and disciplined player who played last season with the Northern Moose in Midget AAA.
Following are the seven other picks made by the Rapids during Friday night’s draft:
*Round 2 (24th overall): DAWSON GRANDY (Forward born in 2006). Played last season with the U-17 Mount Academy Saints.
*Round 3 (27th overall): BEN AUCOIN (Forward born in 2004).
Played last season with the Notre Dame Hounds in U-18 (AAA).
*Round 5 (51st overall): NÉKA JEAN (Forward born in 2006).
Played last season with the U-17 Mount Academy Saints.
*Round 6 (63rd overall): SETH THOMPSON (Forward born in 2005).
Played last season with the St.John Vitos in U-18 AAA.
*Round 6 (64th overall): TYSON SNOW (Forward born in 2005).
Played last season with Rothesay Netherwood.
*Round 8 (87th overall): ETHAN KANE (Defenseman born in 2006).
Played last season with the Mount Academy Saints in U-17.
*Round 10 (117th overall): LOIC NADEAU (Goaltender born in 2006).
Played last season with the Moncton Thunderbirds in U-16 AAA.
TRADE COMPLETED BEFORE THE DRAFT
Prior to the draft, the Rapids made a trade with the Truro Bearcats, obtaining the rights to 19-year-old defenseman CHRISTOPHE RONDEAU who played the last two seasons with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the QMJHL.
In return, the Rapids sent to Truro a 10th round pick (111th overall) in the 2022 draft, along with future considerations.

LES RAPIDES SÉLECTIONNENT 10 JOUEURS LORS DU REPÊCHAGE DE LA LHM
C’est vendredi soir dernier qu’avait lieu le repêchage annuel de la Ligue de hockey junior A des Maritimes alors que 120 joueurs au total ont trouvé preneurs auprès des 12 formations du circuit.
Les Rapides ont effectué 10 choix au total, dont trois lors de la ronde initiale. Il s’agit tous d’ailleurs de hockeyeurs étant nées en 2006.
Grand-Sault a choisi un total de sept joueurs d’avant, tout en ajoutant deux défenseurs et un gardien de but.
Avec le troisième choix effectué lors de la première ronde, les Rapides ont mis la main sur REID CALDER, un attaquant de puissance de 180 livres. Ce dernier évoluait la saison dernière avec les Vitos de St-John au niveau Midget AAA.
Avec le 7e choix, les Rapides ont sélectionné JONAH LEARD, un attaquant considéré comme étant très habile. La saison dernière, Leard portait les couleurs des Flyers de Moncton au niveau Midget AAA.
Grand-Sault a effectué son dernier choix de la première ronde (10e au total) en choisissant un défenseur cette fois, soit MARCO LEBLANC. Considéré un joueur intense et discipliné, Leblanc évoluait la saison dernière avec le Northern Moose au Midget AAA.
Ce qui suit sont les sept autres choix effectués par les Rapides lors du repêchage annuel tenu vendredi soir dernier :
*2e ronde (24e au total): DAWSON GRANDY (Un attaquant né en 2006). Il a joué la saison dernière avec les Saints de Mount Academy au niveau U-17.
*3e ronde (27e au total): BEN AUCOIN (Un attaquant né en 2004). Il a évolué la saison dernière avec les Hounds de Notre Dame au niveau U-18 AAA.
*5e ronde (51e au total): NÉKA JEAN (Un attaquant né en 2006).
Il a joué la saison dernière avec les Saints U-17 de Mount Academy.
*6e ronde (63e au total): SETH THOMPSON (Un attaquant né en 2005). Il a joué la saison dernière avec les Vitos de St.John au niveau Midget AAA.
*6e ronde (64e au total): TYSON SNOW (Un attaquant né en 2005).
Il a évolué la saison dernière avec Rothesay Netherwood.
*8e ronde (87e au total): ETHAN KANE (Un défenseur né en 2006).
Il a joué la saison dernière avec les Saints U-17 de Mount Academy.
*10e ronde (117e au total): LOIC NADEAU (Un gardien de but né en 2006). Il a disputé la dernière saison avec les Thunderbirds de Moncton au niveau U-16 AAA.
ÉCHANGE COMPLÉTÉ AVANT LA TENUE DU REPÊCHAGE
Peu avant le début du repêchage, les Rapides ont effectué une transaction avec les Bearcats de Truro, obtenant les droits sur CHRISTOPHE RONDEAU, un défenseur de 19 ans qui a joué au cours des deux dernières campagnes avec le Phoenix de Sherbrooke dans la LHJMQ.
En retour, les Rapides cèdent aux Bearcats un choix de 10e ronde (111e au total) lors du repêchage de 2022, ainsi que des considérations futures.
