Sunday night (exhibition): BLIZZARD 9 RAPIDS 2
GRAND FALLS– The Blizzard and the Rapids met in Grand Falls for a second consecutive exhibition game and as it was the case on Saturday night, 11 goals in total were scored. Led by a performance of two goals from Noah Gibbs and Blake Richardson, the Blizzard came out on top once again, this time by a final score of 9-2.
While the Blizzard opted to suit up some veteran players, the Rapids gave the opportunity to many of their drafted players and invitees at the camp to show their potential. Despite the fact that it was an exhibition game, it became physical at times, notably during the first few minutes of the opening period and during a few occasions in the final frame.
The Blizzard got on the board at 13:05 of the opening period after winning a faceoff at the opposing end. Blake Richardson got credited with the goal, his first of the pre-season. Then at the 17-minute mark, Noah Gibbs gave the visitors a 2-0 lead on a tough angle shot. Jake Measel made it 3-0 with only 30 seconds remaining in the period.
Edmundston shot 15 times on Joey Hawco, the rookie goaltender who made the start between the pipes for the Rapids. Edmundston netminder Natthan Nadeau faced 9 shots in the period.
Edmundston added four unanswered goals in the middle frame. Aiden Tucker scored with the man advantage at 2:22 to bring the score to 4-0. Blake Richardson scored his second goal of the night at 3:47 while Mitchell MacLeod and Alex Savoie completed the scoring for the visitors who took a 7-0 lead.
The Rapids tallied their first goal with only 2 seconds remaining in the frame. Left unattended in front of the Blizzard net, Matt Spence was able to beat goaltender Will Hodgson who replaced starting netminder Natthan Nadeau mid-way in the period.
After two periods of play, the Blizzard held a 7-1 lead.
Edmundston scored two more goals in the third period, including the second of the night from Noah Gibbs. Mathieu Pelletier also scored for the Blizzard.
The Rapids added a second goal at 11:23 on a great pass from behind the net from Spencer Desveaux to Bryce Thompson who scored his second goal in two nights.
Shots on goal were 41 to 23 in favor of the Blizzard.
The Rapids will play their next exhibition game next Sunday as they host the Campbellton Tigers at 3 pm at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.

Dimanche soir (hors concours) : BLIZZARD 9 RAPIDES 2
GRAND-SAULT– Le Blizzard et les Rapides s’affrontaient dimanche soir à Grand-Sault pour un deuxième match préparatoire en autant de soirs. Dirigé par une performance de deux buts de la part de Noah Gibbs et Blake Richardson, le Blizzard a eu raison de leurs rivaux du Nord-Ouest par la marque de 9-2 pour ainsi signer une deuxième victoire en autant de sorties.
Les Rapides ont encore une fois opté pour donner une chance à leurs jeunes joueurs recrus alors que le Blizzard alignait quelques vétérans pour l’occasion. Malgré le fait qu’il s’agissait d’un match hors concours, les coups d’épaule ont été présents par moments, tout particulièrement lors des premières minutes de jeu de la rencontre et lors de quelques séquences en troisième période.
Le Blizzard a ouvert la marque à 13 :05 en première période suite à une mise au jeu remportée en territoire adverse. Blake Richardson est celui qui a fait bouger les cordages, procurant les devants aux visiteurs. Noah Gibbs a doublé l’avance des siens à 17 :00 alors que Jake Measel portait le pointage 3-0 avec seulement 30 secondes à écouler avec l’aide d’un tir provenant de l’enclave.
Le gardien Joey Hawco des Rapides a fait face à 15 tirs de la part du Blizzard lors de la période initiale alors que son vis-à-vis Natthan Nadeau a repoussé tous les 9 tirs à lui faire face.
La formation d’Edmundston a ajouté quatre buts sans réplique lors de la période médiane. Aiden Tucker a porté la marque 4-0 lors d’une supériorité numérique à 2 :22. Blake Richardson a enregistré son deuxième filet de la rencontre quelques instants plus tard, soit à 3 :47, alors que Mitchell MacLeod et Alex Savoie ont marqué en moins de deux minutes d’intervalle en fin de période pour augmenter l’avance du Blizzard à 7-0.
Les Rapides ont toutefois réussi à s’inscrire au pointage avec seulement 2 secondes à écouler dans l’engagement lorsque Matt Spence, laissé seul devant le filet du Blizzard, a réussi à tromper la vigilance du gardien Will Hodgson qui était venu en relève à Natthan Nadeau mi-chemin en deuxième.
Edmundston a marqué deux autres buts en troisième, dont le deuxième du match de Noah Gibbs. Mathieu Pelletier a lui aussi fait bouger les cordages pour les vainqueurs.
Les Rapides ont inscrit un deuxième but à 11 :23. Spencer Desveaux a dirigé une belle passe devant le filet à Bryce Thompson qui inscrivait un deuxième but en matchs préparatoires.
Le Blizzard a dominé la rencontre au chapitre des tirs au but, 41-23.
Les Rapides disputeront leur prochaine partie hors concours dimanche prochain à domicile alors que les visiteurs pour l’occasion seront les Tigres de Campbellton (15h00).
