STEAMERS DEFEAT RAPIDS 4-2

GRAND FALLS Jérémy Thériault scored three goals, including the game winner in the second period, as the West Kent Steamers defeated the Rapids by a score of 4-2 Wednesday night in Grand Falls.

It was a 7th consecutive loss for the Rapids andthe 22nd victory of the season for West Kent who now takes sole possession of second spot in the Eastlink North division standings.

The score was tied 2-2 after twenty minutes of play. Jérémy Thériault opened the scoring at 1:47 with a shot into the top corner of the net to give the visitors the early lead.

Médéric Allard, with his 5th of the season, tied the score for Grand Falls with a quick shot following a faceoff win in Steamers territory.

The Rapids took a 2-1 lead at 8:31 on Nathan Rhodes 7th of the season which came on a two-on-one break.

Thériault would however add his second tally of the game at 13:48, tying the score for West Kent.

The game was stopped at the 3-minute mark of the period following a broken glass.

Jérémy Thériault completed his hat trick at 12:58 of the middle frame after receiving a pass in front of the net.

Spencer Caines added the Steamers fourth goal at 6:55 of the third period following a rebound in front of the net of Loic Nadeau who made a total of 26 saves between the pipes for the Rapids.

Olivier Dallaire was the winning goaltender, making 22 stops.

A total of 85 minutes of penalties were assessed in this game, including a match penalty to Rapids defenseman Isaac Allard who will most likely miss the next few games.

West Kent went 2 for 7 on the power play while the Rapids were scoreless in 6 PP opportunities.

The Rapids return to action on Friday night as they visit the Campbellton Tigers for a 7pm matchup.
