BOUCTOUCHE – On their last game of the 2024-2025 season, the Grand Falls Rapids came up short against the West Kent Steamers by a score of 3-1. The game was played on Sunday afternoon in front of 589 spectators at the J.K. Irving Centre in Bouctouche.
Jérémy Thériault led the way offensively for the Steamers with a pair of goals, his 18th and 19th of the season.
Jonah Leard scored the lone Rapids’ goal, his 26th of the campaign. Leard finishes the season with a team-leading 27 goals and 39 assists for 66 points.
Loic Nadeau got the start between the pipes for the Rapids, making a total of 32 saves.
West Kent had a 35 to 28 advantage in shots on goal.
Xavier Roy opened the scoring for the Steamers at 8:03 of the first period following a turnover in Rapids’ territory.
The Rapids tied the score however at 15:31 after a face off win in the Steamers’ zone by Cole MacWilliam. Jonah Leard received the puck from MacWilliam and sent a wrist shot that beat netminder Victor Régis.
Less than two minutes later, Jérémy Thériault scored his first goal of the game, beating goalkeeper Nadeau between the pads.
West Kent held a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes of play.
The Steamers added to their lead at 11:18 of the middle frame on an unassisted goal from Jérémy Thériault who was left alone in front of the crease. It was Thériault’s second tally of the contest.
No goals were scored in the third period despite a couple of instances where the Rapids had a break going directly to the net.
Grand Falls finishes its season with a record of 16 wins, 27 regulation losses and 9 extra time defeats for a total of 41 points, which ranks the team 5th in the Eastlink North division standings.
