With their victory over the Fredericton Red Wings on Friday night, the Rapids added two more points to the standings for a total of 10 during the month of February. They also hold a winning record for the current month with 4 wins, 2 regulation losses and 2 extra time defeats. Goaltending has continued to be great and defensive play has been a key factor towards the team’s success recently.
There was only one period in which Greg Leland’s squad was dominated over the weekend and it occurred in the opening frameof Sunday afternoon’s matchup against West Kent. The Steamers scored four unanswered goals in the first twenty minutes of play to take a 4-0 lead. However, the Rapids kept battling and came within one goal of the Steamers on two occasions before finally dropping a close 5-4 decision.
Once again, they never gave up despite the score and played with confidence throughout the last two periods of play.
Nathan Plamondon-Michaud, Derek Bird, Nicholas Brennan and Cole MacWilliam scored for Grand Falls.
Against the Red Wings on Friday night, the Rapids erased a 1-0 deficit to earn a 2-1 victory. Nicholas Brennan tied the score in the opening frame while Cole MacWilliam tallied the game winner in the third period.
Adam Lecours was once again instrumental in the victory, picking up his 11th victory of the season.
There are only four games remaining to the Rapids’ schedule this season with two of those games on home ice.
On Wednesday night, the Rapids host the Campbellton Tigers for a 7:15 start while on Sunday afternoon, once again at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre, the West Kent Steamers will be once again the visitors.
Grand Falls will close out the season with two games on the road in Campbellton and West Kent.
