RAPIDS FALL 5-1 TO MIRAMICHI

GRAND FALLS The Miramichi Timberwolves scored four unanswered goals in the second period as they defeated the Rapids by a score of 5-1 Friday night at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.

Easton Schlender scored twice for the Timberwolves who won for a 25th time this season. For Grand Falls, it was a 25th loss in 43 games.

The Rapids dominated the first twenty minutes of play, sending a total of 23 shots on net compared to only 7 for the visitors. Brayden Campbell opened the scoring at 10:27 as he came off the wing with speed, sending a shot past Miramichi netminder Mathis Lafontaine. It was Campbells 10th tally of the season. Nathan Rhodes assisted on the goal as the Rapids held a 1-0 lead after the first period.

The Timberwolves found their legs in the middle frame, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead.

Easton Schlender scored his first goal of the game with only 40 seconds off the clock after puck drop.
Thatcher Hughes gave Miramichi the lead at 6:06 on a one-timer in front of the net. Then at 10:25, Cael MacDonalds wrist shot went by Rapids goalkeeper Loic Nadeau to make it 3-1. Schlender would add his second of the contest at 14:15 on a backhand shot while on a two-on-one break.

Eliott Robert added the Timberwolves fifth goal at 1:53 of the final frame while his team was playing with the man advantage.

The Rapids led 35 to 28 in the shots on goal department.

For Miramichi, two players finished the game with 1 goal and 2 assists: Thatcher Hughes and Cael MacDonald.

A total of 880 spectators attended the game held at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre. 

Fans will be able to see once again their team in action over the weekend as the Rapids host the Campbellton Tigers for a 3pm start on Sunday afternoon.
