GRAND FALLS – Goaltender Adam Rouleau made a total of 34 saves, registering his first shutout of the season, as the Campbellton Tigers defeated the Grand Falls Rapids by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
Rouleau faced 14 shots in a wide-open first period where both teams had numerous scoring opportunities. Rouleau came out strong early in the contest, keeping the game scoreless with some brilliant saves.
Felix-Antoine Laflamme was the first player to find the back of the net for the visitors on an odd-man rush. His shot beat netminder Adam Lecours in the top corner of the cage for a 1-0 Campbellton lead at the 2-minute mark of the opening period.
If the Rapids seemed to have control of the first period, it was the Tigers who had momentum in their favor in the middle frame. Tyler Pazin added to the lead at 13:47 after finding a loose puck to the side of the net.
Campbellton outshot Grand Falls 13 to 9 in the second period.
Isaac Arseneault made it 3-0 at 6:10 of the third period, a shorthanded tally which put a dagger to any hope of a comeback for the Rapids.
Grand Falls led the game in shots on goal, 34 to 32.
With the loss, the Rapids are now 3-points back of fourth spot in the EastLink North division standings with a record of 3 wins and 7 losses on the season.
Greg Leland’s squad will play its next game on Friday night at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre as they host the Yarmouth Mariners at 7pm.
