RAPIDS EARN A SHUTOUT WIN OVER WEST KENT

GRAND FALLS Adam Lecours made a total of 37 saves, earning his first shutout of the season, as the Rapids went on to defeat the West Kent Steamers by a score of 3-0 in their last home game of the season played on Sunday afternoon at the E.&P. SénéchalCentre.

It was also a 5th victory for Grand Falls over their last 7 games and their 16th of the season with two more games remaining to be played on their schedule.

Before the game, five players were presented with a video tribute as they put an end to their junior A careers. Forwards Nicholas Brennan and Cole MacWilliam as well as defensemen Will Morrison, Mathieu Martel and Paul Slivcaall played their last game Sunday in front of their home fans.

After a scoreless first period, Matthew Ferdinand gave the Rapids a 1-0 lead at 1:52 of the middle frame when his shot went through the legs of Steamers’ goaltender Victor Régis. It was Ferdinand’s second goal as a Rapid.

Then with only 7 seconds remaining in the period, Anton Topilnyckvj’s shot from just inside the blue line found the back of the net to give the Rapids a 2-0 lead after two periods of play.

The Rapids added their third goal of the contest on Brody Pare’s backhand shot with only 18 seconds played in the third period. 

Nathan Plamondon-Michaud and Anton Topilnyckvj assisted on Paré’s 7th tally of the season.

Shots on goal were 37 to 23 in favor of West Kent.

Matthew Ferdinand and Anton Topilnyckvj both finished the game with 1 goal and 1 assist.
The Steamers went 0 for 4 on the power play while Grand Falls was scoreless on 1 PP opportunity.

The Rapids will finish their season on the road next weekend as they travel to Campbellton on Friday night and to Bouctouche to play West Kent late Sunday afternoon.
