RAPIDS COME FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT THE TIMBERWOLVES

MIRAMICHI – Jayden Burtt-Munn scored the game winning goal at 53 seconds into overtime, giving the Grand Falls Greenfoot Rapids a spectacular come from behind 5-4 victory Sunday afternoon in Miramichi.

It was the Rapids’ first victory of the 2026-2027 campaign as they finish the weekend with a .500 record on the road.

The outlook wasn’t good for Jeff Cowan’s squad after forty minutes of play. Trailing 4-1, the Rapids regrouped brilliantly and simply dominated their opponents in the third period, sending 17 shots on goal compared to only 5 for the Timberwolves.

The comeback came past the mid-way point of the third (at 12:35) and it all started with Antoine L’Italien’s first tally of the season following a rebound in front of the net. His backhand shot beat netminder Alexandro Montoya, cutting Miramichi’s lead to two goals.

Defenseman Thomas Morin responded at 15:42 with a wrist shot from the point and added his second goal of the game in similar fashion with only 45 seconds remaining in regulation time, tying the score at 4-4.

It didn’t take long for the Rapids to complete the comeback in the overtime frame when Burtt-Munn took possession of the puck from his own blue line, speeding into the opponent’s territory before sending the puck to the back of the net on a wrister.

The Timberwolves took a 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals from Jacob Lachance at 37 seconds of play and a late goal from Carson Griffin at 19:53.

Eliot Tozer added Miramichi’s third goal at 7:12 of the second period before Brayden Watson would score the Rapids’ first goal of the contest at 11:29. However, the Timberwolves answered back 42 seconds later on a goal from Alexis Doucet to bring the score to 4-1 after two periods.

With his two goals, Thomas Morin also added an assist for a three-point game. Antoine Litalien (1g 1a) and Brody Pare (2a) also contributed offensively.

Noah Preston-Moore earned his first victory between the pipes, stopping 28 shots.

The Rapids will play their next game next Saturday on home ice as they host the Amherst Ramblers.
