MARINERS DEFEAT RAPIDS 5-1

YARMOUTH (NS) The Yarmouth Mariners scored four unanswered goals in the second period, earning their third victory of the season in a 5-1 victory over the Rapids on Saturday night.

It was a 6th loss overall for Grand Falls as they end their short trip to Nova Scotia with a record of 0-2.

Jerome Nadeau led the way offensively for the Mariners with a pair of goals while netminder Carter Arnold earned his first win of the season, blocking 45 shots.

Cole MacWilliam, with his second of the season, scored the lone goal for the Rapids.

Both teams scored on one occasion in the opening period. Jared Pitman scored from the slot at 12:03 to give Yarmouth the lead before Cole MacWiliam would tie the game up for Grand Falls with under two minutes remaining in the frame on a rebound in front of the net.

Patrick Baxter and Jeremy DAstous both assisted on MacWilliams tally.

Despite being outshot 21 to 13 in the second period, Yarmouth took control of the game by scoring four times to take a 5-1 lead.

Jerome Nadeau scored his first of the night at 22 seconds of play. Keefe Marshall deflected the puck past Rapids goaltender Adam Lecours at 4:28 to bring the score 3-1. Justin Garneau, on a power play, made it 4-1 on a wrist shot at 6:04 and Jerome Nadeau found the short side of the net at 16:03, scoring his second goal of the contest.

No goals were scored in the third period.

Adam Lecours faced 25 shots in the game. 

Leading scorers for Yarmouth were Justin Garneau (1g 2a), Thomas Larouche (3a) and Jerome Nadeau (2g).

The Rapids will return to their home rink for 8 consecutive games starting Friday night as they host the Valley Wildcats at 7pm at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
