EDMUNDSTON SCORES TWICE IN THE THIRD TO EARN A 5-3 VICTORY

GRAND FALLS Emile Fournier scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and added the insurance tally later in the frame, giving the Edmundston Blizzard a 5-3 victory Wednesday night over the Rapids.

Fournier broke a 3-3 tie at 11:20 before adding his 14th goal of the season at 15:15. Raphael Denis tied the score for Grand Falls on a 5 on 3 power play at 8:16 of the third period.

For the Blizzard, it was a 20th victory this season, which is tops in the league. The Rapids record now stands at 4-11-4 as they remain tied with the Fredericton Red Wings in the EastLink North division with 12 points.

Jeremy DAstous gave the Rapids the lead midway in the opening period. After intercepting a pass at the blue line, DAstous sent a shot over the shoulder of Edmundston goalkeeper Simon Boucher for a 1-0 Grand Falls lead.

The Blizzard tied the score at 1:14 of the second period on a goal from Carl-Anthony Masse. Mathieu Pigeon gave the visitors a 2-1lead at 8:41 on a shot into the top corner of the net, followed by Justin Heberts goal at 14:16.

Edmundston had a 3-1 lead through two periods of play.

The Rapids reduced the margin to a single goal at 1:30 of the third period on a shot from Nicholas Brennan that went top shelf. It was Brennans 4th goal of the season.

Then on a 5 on 3 powerplay, Raphael Denis sent a one-timer past Simon Boucher to tie the score 3-3 at 8:16.

Emile Fournier then took care of business with two goals to give the Blizzard the win.

Shots on goal were 40 to 27 in favour of Edmundston.

The crowd at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre was estimated at just under 900 spectators.

The Rapids will play their next two games on the road as they head to Amherst on Saturday night (7:30) before clashing with the West Kent Steamers at 4:00 pm on Sunday.
