GRAND FALLS – Jérémy D’Astous marked his return to Grand Falls on Friday night with a performance of 2 goals and 3 assists, guiding the Edmundston Blizzard to an 8-0 shutout victory over the Rapids.
A total of 1211 spectators were on site for the game played at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
D’Astous scored his 19th and 20th goals of the season as the Blizzard dominated their opponents on many facets of the game.
Frédéric Cousineau registered the shutout between the pipes, stopping all 26 shots he faced. Edmundston sent a total of 46 shots on Rapids’ netminder Adam Lecours.
It was a 5th consecutive defeat for Grand Falls while the Blizzard won for a 30th time this season.
It took only 16 seconds following the initial puck drop for Edmundston to get on the board. Philippe Collette scored his first of the nightand his 20th goal of the season following a pass in front of the net. Émile Fournier would then take advantage of a loose puck in the crease to add to the Blizzard scoring at 14:59 as Edmundston held a 2-0 lead through twenty minutes of play.
Jérémy D’Astous scored his first of the game on a screen shot at 1:36 of the middle frame. Then Philippe Collette, with his second of the contest, brought the score 4-0 after he took a rebound in front of the net.
After two periods, D’Astous already had 1g 3a to his credit while Edmundston was ahead 4-0.
The Blizzard added four more goals in the third period, including D’Astous’ second of the game at 4:46.
Justin Bouchard-Trottier (at 12:46) and Carl-Anthony Masse (at 16:51) scored the 6th and 7th goals for the visitors. The 8th Blizzard goal was scored by another ex-Rapids who was alsomaking a return to Grand Falls. Defenseman Raphaël Denis did indeed take part in the scoring with his 9th tally of the season at 17:40 of the period.
Jérémy D’Astous (2g 3a), Philippe Collette (2g 2a), Émile Fournier (1g 4a) and Carl-Anthony Masse (1g 3a) all contributed to the Blizzard offence.
Edmundston went 1 for 5 on the power play while Grand Falls was 0 for 3.
The Rapids return to action on Sunday afternoon as they host the Truro Bearcats. Puck drop is at 3pm at the E.&P. Sénéchal Centre.
