TRURO – The Rapids dropped their third consecutive game on Friday night as they were defeated 5-1 by the Truro Bearcats.
It was the Rapids’ 19th loss of the season and their 12th on the road in 18 games.
Zachary Marquis led the Bearcats’ offense with 2 goals and 1 assist, earning first star of the game honors.
Grand Falls did lead the game in shots on goal, 32 to 25.
Marquis is the one who got things started for Truro in the opening frame, scoring at 10:59 while his team was playing with the man advantage.
The Bearcats scored three unanswered goals in the second period. Eric Halliday’s shot from the faceoff circle went by Rapids’ netminder Adam Lecours at 1:32, bringing the score to 2-0. Liam Welsh, on a rebound in front of the net, and Kevin Walker on a takeaway in Rapids’territory, made it 4-0 for the home team through two periods of play.
The Rapids got on the board at 7:30 of the third period when Matthew Ferdinand fed a pass in front of the net to Médéric Allard who tallied his first goal for his new squad.
Then at 9:53, Zachary Marquis added his second goal of the game to bring the final score to 5-1.
Jack Milner was the winning goaltender, making a total of 31 saves, which gave him second star honors.
The Rapids went 0 for 6 on the power play while Truro scored 1 goal on 3 PP opportunities.
The Rapids finish off their three-game road trip Sunday afternoon in Fredericton against the Red Wings.
