6th CONSECUTIVE VICTORY FOR THE RAPIDS
GRAND FALLS – In an offensive outburst offered in front of their home fans on Sunday afternoon, the Grand Falls Rapids won their 6th straight game with an impressive 10-6 victory over the visiting Campbellton Tigers. It was a 27th win this season for Greg Leland’s squad and a 5th this season against the Tigers.
Powered by 55 shots to the opposing net, the Rapids dominated their opponents by scoring four times in the opening frame while adding six more goals in the second period. All Rapids’ players that were on the lineup on Sunday afternoon earned at least 1 point.
It was also a team record for most goals scored in a game. The Rapids had previously reached the 9-goal plateau during the 2021-2022 season against the Fredericton Red Wings and in 2024-2025 against the Amherst Ramblers.
Jonah Leard got things started in the opening period, scoring his 19th of the season at the two-minute mark of the game. Dereck Asselin then tallied his first of two goals at 6:06 by putting in a rebound past Tigers’ goalkeeper Niko Boudreau.
Alexi Parent reduced the margin for the visitors midway through the period, but Asselin added his second of the game at 11:35 and Nathan Plamondon-Michaud scored his 22nd of the season at 19:04 to give Grand Falls a 4-1 lead through twenty minutes of play.
Logan Mallaley scored the first of his three goals for Campbellton early in the second period, but Coen Miller, with his 27th of the season, added the Rapids 5th goal who would score five more times before the end of the frame. Goals came in bunches as Declan Kennedy, Isaac Allard, Tristan Richard, Loïc Francoeur and Vincent Robert (power play) brought the total to 10 goals. Logan Mullaley added his second tally of the game for the Tigers who trailed 10-3 after two periods of play.
Campbellton would add three more goals in the final frame, including the third of the game from Mullaley.
Dereck Aucoin was the Rapids’ leading scorer in the contest with 2g and 1a. Jérémy Thobodeau-Soucy earned the win between the pipes, blocking 21 of the 27 shots he faced.
Samuel Quimper came in the game with seconds left in the second period for the Tigers, replacing Niko Boudreau.
The Rapids are now 1 point back of the Edmundston Blizzard for second spot in the Eastlink North division standings. Both teams will face off on Thursday night at the Jean-Daigle Centre as the Rapids will try to defeat their Northwestern rivals for the second time in less than a week.
